A 5th Fugazi member? Fugazi is known for it’s core: Ian, Guy, Brendan & Joe but after so many years of playing the same songs it was decided that they needed a change. How to do that? Add another drummer. And what better person than the guy who has supported the band all these years. Jerry was apart of Fugazi’s works, “The Argument & Furniture”. Learn more with this hour long episode. In this episode we talk about: finding out about hardcore, growing up with the Dischord family, being on the road with Fugazi, burnout, working with John Frusciante of the Chili Peppers, getting asked to play with Fugazi both live and studio & more! Two total different aspects of music, old school punk & covers, that might be more similar than you think. This was an intimidating interview, much like how Spike & The Gimme Gimme’s audience feels prior to them taking as the stage as they know they are going to be blessed with music that could actually cure them of illness. The roots of this band are unquestionable, make sure to tune in to learn about the maestro’s themselves & what to expect in the future. In this episode we split into two parts.. Part 1 highlights/ focuses on CJ’s time as a Ramone, his gateway to joining the band, how the Ramones legacy continues & more. As with part 2 we are joined by Spike, as the three of us dive into all things “Shit the Bed”, by Spike and the Gimme Gimmes, out October 23rd on Fat Wreck Chords. Thank you to Dan from A Day In The Life Records for sponsoring this week’s episode. Tune in for the first ever in person interview, of the main series, at the beautiful True Hand with Mike & Chris of Brother’s Keeper. When I first started to get more invovled in the local scene I was trying to branch out to local events, I stumbled upon an event at Mike’s shop (True Hand) and by the end found out he was actually a vocalist of a band I should listen to. On the car ride home I remember hearing the opening to “The Continuum” and was instantly hooked. Since then I’ve been bugging Mike about talking on the pod and who would of known after a year of being persistent I single handedly brought back Brother’s Keeper (maybe not true). And here we are today… In this episode with talk about: building your local scene, reforming the band, what it feels like to record after all these year, how hardcore has changed, their new projects including “You Can’t Kill Me” album as well as their single “Asymmetrical Warflair” featuring Pat of Drug Church & more!
