Overhated

So-so box office, lukewarm reviews, and a massive payday for the lead actor led to this movie being labeled as some sort of insane misfire. But it's not. To say movie nuts like thuis movie more now than they did back then would be a massive understatement. My thanks to film writer Matthew Simpson (@SmatthewAF) for picking a great movie to celebrate Overhated's next hundred reviews. Check out the list of episodes here: bit.ly/3WZiLFk. Cargill is back! And instead of covering something like freakin' Megaforce, we decided to have a long talk about the much-derided (but perhaps slightly overhated) Sinister 2, a movie he wrote alongside his frequent collaborator Scott Derrickson. And yep, this is a super-sized conversation. Big thanks to Cargill for this great chat, and my perpetual appreciation to all patrons and listeners. At first glance you'd think "ew, what's that?" but then someone told you who the writers / director were and your brain said "whaaaaat?" Big thanks to my guest Paul Rosen of Piecing It Together podcast for picking this truly insane mash-up of noir, farce, and insane physics. Check out the list of episodes here: bit.ly/3WZiLFk. If you grew up loving Conan the Barbarian (1982) you probably also had some room in your heart for Conan the Destroyer (1984) and Red Sonja (1985). And if not, that's OK. For this episode I found a big Sonja supporter in my old friend Ashley Lynch. Big thanks to Ashley for picking this one, and my love to Effin Birds and every single patron / listener! It's got its fair share of fans these days, but that was not the case back in 1995. Join me and my excellent first-time guest Simon Underwood as we discuss this kitschy curiosity that somehow stood the test of time. Sort of. Check out the list of episodes here: bit.ly/3WZiLFk.
