This episode of Strategic Motion is a little different. I sat down with my 10 year old son, Judah, for a conversation about one of our favorite things to talk about, movies. We also talk about his favorite shows. Duck Dynasty, The Chosen and Stranger Things. Quite the contrast. It is a fun conversation with another one of my favorite guests I have ever had on the show. On this episode of Strategic Motion, I sit down with Kurt Wheeler, owner of KXW Productions in Kansas City, to talk about video production, filmmaking, running a creative business, and of course, movies. Kurt shares how his background in music, photography, radio, and digital marketing eventually led him into video production and the launch of KXW Productions. He also talks about making the jump into full time self employment, building recurring client relationships, shooting corporate video and weddings, and figuring out what it really takes to grow a production company. We also get into cameras, Sony vs. Canon, whether 8K actually matters, how much camera technology has changed, and why great editing and storytelling still matter more than having the newest gear. Then we get to one of my favorite parts of Strategic Motion, movies. Kurt names The Big Lebowski as his favorite film and talks about why he loves the Coen Brothers, including Fargo and No Country for Old Men. We get into their writing, strange characters, unconventional storytelling, cinematography, and why Kurt believes great writing is ultimately what makes a movie a classic. We also wander into Dune, Christopher Nolan, Inception, Tenet, practical effects, Tarantino, modern three hour movies, and plenty more. If you are into filmmaking, video production, creative business, cameras, or just talking about great movies, this episode is for you. This episode of Strategic Motion is a little different. I sat down with my 7 year old son, Finley, for a conversation about one of our favorite things to talk about, movies. Finley is a huge How to Train Your Dragon fan, so we get into his favorite movie in the series, Hiccup, Toothless, the Light Fury, the big battles, the live action movie, and what he thinks real dragons would actually look like. We also talk a little Lego Movie, future podcast plans, and the important question of whether Hollywood somehow found real dragons for the new movie. It is a fun conversation with one of my favorite guests I have ever had on the show. If you love movies, dragons, or just hearing a 7 year old give his completely unfiltered movie opinions, this one is for you. 🎬 Subscribe so you don't miss Episodes packed with real stories, actionable strategies, and a dose of film talk every week!
