With no guest this week, Reed and Rev look back on the four-episode Pennsylvania series and the themes that kept coming up: Bitcoin culture shifting from revolution to renaissance, and toxic maximalism giving way to cooperation and curiosity. They talk about home mining, including Reed’s new S19J Pros, solar-powered heating math, and why a miner is most useful when you give it a real job. They also take an honest look at the tired state of Bitcoin culture after a summer of hacks and disclosures, then mark Episode 33 with a 33k-sat wheel spin that sent more sats to the Samurai developers from a featured podcast episode on the Ungovernables feed “Letter #7: Notes from the Inside.”

Johnny Crypto of Three Rivers Bitcoin joins us to talk about running a meetup built for newcomers in Pittsburgh, a city where Bitcoiners are spread out and easy to lose touch with. The conversation turns to toxicity in Bitcoin’s culture: purity tests, meme-armor that turns newcomers away, and why being principled doesn’t require being an asshole. We also cover Johnny’s takeaways from Lauren Rodriguez’s visit to Pittsburgh BitDevs, why the community needs a funded, organized response the next time privacy developers are prosecuted, and a big round of boosts in the V4V section.

Business Cat (Luke) of the Central Pennsylvania Bitcoiners joins us to talk about his monthly Bitplebs meetup, how he claimed the whole center of the state back in 2021, and how a region steeped in Amish and Mennonite parallel economics is producing Bitcoin plumbers, farmers, and tree guys. With home heating oil up sharply, we trade notes on heating with Bitcoin miners, from a basement S9 to plumbing a Whatsminer straight into the HVAC system, and why being a Bitcoin maximalist increasingly means becoming a polymath who learns faster alongside the plebs at your local meetup. We also get into podcasting as a cure for shrinking attention spans, Rock Paper Bitcoin and the 49th Parallel, the Book of Enoch, sassafras root beer, and why the most important meme may simply be "stay curious."

Rev and Reed sit down with Average Gary, organizer of the Shenandoah Bitcoin Club, to talk about why he moved his meetup to a low-pressure Saturday "Bitcoin brunch," how consistency built it into a community anchor, and what it means to become the local "Bitcoin guy." Gary also explains how Bitcoin Veterans works as a leaderless, veteran-led network with just two rules (no violence, no shitcoins), and why veterans are well positioned to push the mission forward. The conversation then turns to mining: Gary's work on rotating Coinbase payouts, eHash, and paying into Ark, plus a thought experiment on hyper-local mining pools and zero-fee community blocks, before the crew wraps up with the V4V leaderboards and boosts.

Seth joins Rev and Reed to talk about Nostr Valley, the annual Central Pennsylvania gathering he and Derek Ross have grown from a patched-together first year at Happy Valley Brewing into a free three-day event returning October 17th, plus Zap Cooking, the Nostr recipe platform he built around food as the base layer of culture. The conversation works through why hodl culture sent the wrong message, why a Nostr meetup is a Bitcoin meetup, and how remixing open source code is the same move as remixing your grandmother's pickle recipe. Rev ties it back to the nine forms of capital: when you spend financial capital to get people in a room, what comes back is trust, friendship, and collaboration you could never have bought.
