What happens when the part of yourself you spent years running from becomes the foundation for what you’re building? In this episode of The Ill Noise Business Playbook, Joe sits down with Ari of Ari’s Nature Inspired for a conversation about identity, heritage, creativity, failure, entrepreneurship, and building a brand that represents who you truly are. Growing up, Ari struggled with his relationship to his Indian heritage. His childhood experiences caused him to distance himself from parts of his culture, and eventually he wanted to leave India and start over somewhere new. But years later, that perspective began to change. After building a career as a mechanical engineer and exploring his passion for art and design, Ari decided to try entrepreneurship. His first candle business failed. The candles didn’t perform the way he wanted, the fragrances weren’t right, and after only a few months, he shut the business down. Instead of viewing that failure as the end, Ari took two years away, learned from the experience, and eventually returned with a completely different vision. That’s when he realized something important: The heritage he had spent years running away from could actually become the heart of the brand. Ari began experimenting with Indian and Western fragrances, blending cultures together and creating candles designed to be more than just products. His goal is to build an organic, handmade luxury brand where art, Indian craftsmanship, fragrance, culture, and storytelling come together. For Ari, the vision goes far beyond candles. He wants to create something recognizable around the world while proudly showing where the inspiration comes from. Throughout the conversation, Ari also talks about balancing a full-time engineering career with entrepreneurship, dealing with burnout, finding the right support system, putting yourself out there, handling rejection, and why entrepreneurs should not be afraid of failure. He also shares why living authentically changed his life. Once he stopped worrying as much about whether everyone would understand or accept him, he became less afraid and more comfortable being himself. One of the biggest lessons from Ari’s journey is that failure does not necessarily mean you chose the wrong path. Sometimes it gives you the opportunity to rethink what wasn’t working, understand yourself better, and come back with something stronger. As Ari explains, when you fail, you get the chance to understand what caused that failure—and then get back up “bigger and better.” And sometimes the thing you need to build something meaningful has been part of your story all along. What does it mean to keep giving when life keeps asking more of you?For Susan Noble, giving has always been part of who she is.In this episode of The Ill Noise Business Playbook, Joe sits down with Susan of Blessed Events & Parties for a deeply personal conversation about caregiving, family, epilepsy advocacy, dementia, community, rebuilding a business, and why she believes every day gives us a reason to celebrate someone we love.Susan’s journey began long before Blessed Events & Parties. While living in Florida, she started a nonprofit to support children and families affected by epilepsy and seizures after seeing how little support was available in her community. But life eventually shifted her priorities. As her mother’s dementia progressed, Susan stepped away from the foundation to help her father care for her. Years later, she is now helping care for her 93-year-old father, a longtime physician who has also been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia.Watching someone who once had such a brilliant mind begin to change has brought Susan face-to-face with another kind of grief. As she puts it, she sometimes feels like she is grieving her father before he is even gone. Those experiences didn’t take away Susan’s desire to give. They strengthened it.Blessed Events & Parties became another way for Susan to serve others—creating celebrations for children, families, businesses, and people reaching meaningful milestones. For Susan, a celebration doesn’t have to be extravagant. It’s about reminding someone that they matter. That they are loved. That they are worth celebrating.Susan also shares how giving remains built into her business through her support of organizations close to her heart, including epilepsy advocacy and Mercy Ships. After moving back to Illinois, she had to begin rebuilding her business and community connections almost from scratch. She talks openly about how difficult that process has been, learning when to say no, balancing generosity with running a sustainable business, and why she refuses to quit.Much of that spirit came from watching her parents. Her father was the kind of physician who would care for patients whether or not they could afford to pay—and even drove through snowstorms to make house calls. That example helped shape Susan’s belief that in order to receive something meaningful from life, you also have to be willing to give. One of the strongest messages from this conversation is simple: Every day is a reason to celebrate your child, your family, your friends, or someone you love. Sometimes celebration isn’t about a party. Sometimes it’s simply about recognizing the people who matter while you still have the opportunity to do it.Connect with Blessed Events & Parties : Website: www.blessedeventsparties.org/ Instagram: www.instagram.com/bless_events/reels/ Facebook: www.facebook.com/BlessedEventspartiesgiftofgiving/ Subscribe to The Ill Noise Business Playbook for more authentic conversations with entrepreneurs, business owners, nonprofit leaders, and community builders about the stories, relationships, challenges, and purpose behind what they do. #BlessedEvents #TheIllNoiseBusinessPlaybook #Community #SmallBusiness #Caregiving #DementiaAwareness #EpilepsyAwareness #GivingBack #Entrepreneurship #Family #CelebrateLife
What can come from one of the darkest seasons of your life? For Jon and Alicia, a battle with stage three tonsil cancer eventually became part of the journey that led them to create Millie’s Playland—a space designed to give young children a safe place to imagine, explore, play, and build memories. In this episode of The Ill Noise Business Playbook, Joe sits down with Jon and Alicia, owners of Millie’s Playland, for a conversation about surviving cancer, taking a risk on a business idea, opening just days before the COVID shutdown, building a strong team, giving back to the community, and creating something meaningful for families.Jon shares the difficult reality of his cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery—and how confronting his own mortality caused him to look differently at his life and what he wanted to create.During that period, a simple question from Alicia about where their young daughter Millie could play during the winter sparked an idea. What if they created a space specifically for younger children—one built around imagination rather than screens? That idea became Millie’s Playland. But getting there was anything but easy.Jon and Alicia invested their savings, faced construction costs far beyond what they expected, questioned whether they should walk away, and then opened their doors just three days before COVID forced businesses to shut down.Instead of giving up, they adapted. They introduced private play sessions, created opportunities for children—including those with compromised immune systems and special needs—to enjoy the space safely, and slowly built the business and community around them.Today, Millie’s Playland represents something much bigger than an indoor play space. It represents family, imagination, resilience, community, and the memories children take with them long after they leave.Connect with Millie’s Playland: Website: https://www.milliesplayland.net/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/milliesplayland Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/milliesplayland/ 🦷 SUPPORTING PARTNER — DENTAL SYMPHONY This episode is supported by Dr. Rima Modi, DMD and Dental Symphony in Algonquin, Illinois. What makes someone a great caregiver? Skills can be taught, but compassion, empathy, and the ability to truly care for another person are harder to train. In this episode of The Ill Noise Business Playbook, Joe sits down with Shamini and Carolyn of HomeWell Care Services of Crystal Lake for a conversation about caregiving, family, leadership, trust, and building a business around supporting people at home. For Shamini, the journey into home care became deeply personal after caring for her mother during her battle with cancer. That experience gave her a firsthand understanding of what families face when someone they love needs additional support—and inspired her to build a business where families feel understood and cared for. Carolyn brings her own personal connection to caregiving. After years of experience in healthcare, she became the primary caregiver for her grandmother. That experience changed how she viewed care and helped lead her to HomeWell. Together, Shamini and Carolyn discuss their approach to non-medical in-home care and their belief that clients should be treated like family. They talk about why families sometimes wait to ask for help, the value of understanding care options early, how they match caregivers with clients, and why the relationship between a caregiver and a family goes beyond everyday tasks. They also explore a central question: What can you train, and what can’t you? Technical skills can be learned. Empathy, patience, and the ability to see the person behind the need can make care more meaningful. JOE, SHAMINI & CAROLYN DISCUSS: • Why Shamini left the corporate world to pursue more meaningful work • How caring for her mother influenced Shamini’s approach to home care • Carolyn’s journey from healthcare and family caregiving to HomeWell • Why trust and companionship matter alongside everyday support • Why families may delay asking for help • The value of learning about care options before an urgent need arises • What HomeWell looks for when hiring caregivers • Why compassion and empathy are difficult to teach • Treating clients and caregivers like family • Growing a care business while keeping a personal approach This conversation is about the responsibility that comes with caring for another person—and building a business that keeps compassion at its center. 💙 Connect with HomeWell Care Services: https://homewellcares.com/ https://www.instagram.com/homewellcareservices/ https://www.facebook.com/HomeWellcares/ If you believe business can be built through relationships, trust, service, and genuine care for people, this episode is for you.
