THARWATISM - A Leadership Podcast

Most high-performing managers don’t fail in a new role because they lack skill. They fail because they can’t let go of the habits that got them promoted. In this episode of Tharwatism, we unpack why the first 90 days decide so much of a leader’s tenure, and how to build momentum when resources are tight. Using a real district-leadership scenario, six territories covered by a two-person field force, we walk through a practical 3x30-day framework:Days 1-30, Analysis & Learning: Protect the volume that matters most, scan and tier the market, and be honest about what you can’t cover yet.Days 31-60, Planning & Guided Coaching: Move a new rep from joint calls to observed solo visits with the GROWS model, and protect your top performer’s selling time.Days 61-90, Action & Headcount Expansion: Hand over autonomy, measure the district on a focused KPI scorecard, and pitch a breakeven business case to get approval for new hires. We also cover the seven shifts from individual producer to enterprise leader, and why the best early wins “do double duty”: they build credibility now and set the behaviors you want long term.Drawing on the thinking of Michael Watkins, this episode is for first-line and district managers who want to stop firefighting and start leading.
