I am a Spiritual Teacher and Channeller with Aphantasia (the inability to voluntarily visualise) and a background in Science and Mathematics. I bring a clear, systematic, and logical approach to spiritual topics.Today, we are doing a deep-dive exploration of two distinct forms of spirit communication: Mediumship, which operates as spirit speaking to you, versus Channelling, which operates as spirit speaking through you, through the lens of Aphantasia. We will bridge empirical cognitive neuroscience with academic research, introduce an accessible radio receiver analogy to explain how these mechanics operate, and translate these findings into practical, actionable discernment tools for your personal spiritual practice. If you want to dive deeper into the topics from today's episode, here are the links to the primary research:University of Virginia Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) Research Portal: https://med.virginia.edu/perceptual-studies/publications/Windbridge Research Center Peer-Reviewed Studies: https://www.windbridge.org/Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) Research Portal: https://noetic.org/William James, Human Immortality: Two Supposed Objections to the Doctrine (1898): https://archive.org/details/humanimmortality00jame/page/n7/mode/2upAdam Zeman et al., Lives without imagery – Aphantasia, Cortex (2015): https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0010945215001781Julio Peres et al., Neuroimaging During Trance States: A Physiology-Based Model of Mediumship, PLOS ONE (2012): https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0049360Stephen Porges, The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-regulation: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3490536/Michael Newton Institute Publications: https://www.newtoninstitute.org/publications/Robert Schwartz Publications: https://yoursoulsplan.com/books/If this podcast resonates with you, please like, follow, share, or comment. Have you ever felt an absolute certainty about someone else’s hidden motives—only to realise later you were reacting to your own insecurity? Or experienced an internal voice during a period of grief or spiritual practice that delivered the exact words you desperately hoped—or feared—to hear?Psychologically and neurologically, the mind is engaging in Ego Projection—superimposing hidden fears, unhealed childhood wounds, or unspoken desires onto other people, our self-talk, or spirit communication. In this episode, we are exploring why this happens and how the brain constructs these projections. We will examine how Carl Jung’s psychological framework of the Shadow provides the emotional fuel, how early childhood attachment conditioning and emotional states dictate the volume and shape of those projections, and how modern brain science provides the neurological engine. We will then establish a step-by-step framework to recognise projection:Across Three Areas: Onto other people, within your inner voice, and when distinguishing ego projection from genuine spirit communication.Navigating Doubt & The Physiology of Discernment: How your physical body and nervous system signal the difference between authentic intuitive guidance and shadow-driven panic, anxious urgency, avoidant cynicism, or mental fatigue. The Discernment Self-Audit: A practical, post-session evaluation framework—examining the Agenda, Cost, and Source Script behind your thoughts once you step back—allowing you to thoroughly audit and analyse your inner experiences to discern if it was Ego Projection or Spirit Communication. If you want to dive deeper into the topics from today's episode, here are the links to the primary research:Jung, C. Hello, and welcome to my podcast, Spirituality Without Visualisation. My name is Sally.I am a Spiritual Teacher and Channeller with Aphantasia—the inability to voluntarily visualise.Today, we are exploring a direct, non-visual framework specifically designed to help aphantasic listeners learn how to connect with inner guidance, while solving one of the biggest challenges on this path: how easy it is to mistake everyday ego projection for genuine spirit communication.Ego projection is that unconscious habit where your analytical mind constructs what it wants to hear, fabricating inner speech or advice to stroke your desires, soothe your worries, or defend your perspective. If a person has clairvoyance and can visually see spirit, identifying who is speaking is vastly easier. They receive an immediate visual confirmation—they can visually recognise the distinct shape, energetic form, or appearance of a loved one in spirit, or a spirit guide standing in their mind's eye. That visual image creates instant differentiation from their internal monologue. As the saying goes, "seeing is believing." Visual imagery provides immediate external proof that the experience isn't just ego self-talk.However, if you have aphantasia like me, and cannot see anything in your mind’s eye, you have zero visual proof. You do not get an image to verify who is speaking. This makes discernment much harder, leading many aphantasics to constantly doubt themselves, second-guess their experiences, or assume they are just talking to themselves. In this Non-Visual Guided Theta Hypnosis, we are going to help you identify ego and spirit inner voices cleanly and directly. You do not need to try to force your ego to be quiet, and you do not need to visualise a thing. I am going to guide your mind safely through the process. If you want to dive deeper into the research underlying this hypnosis framework, listen to this episode:E77: Are Inner Voices with Aphantasia- Ego, Spirit or Mental Health?https://open.spotify.com/episode/6mFEnIpaBCmMeM5XOYqPts?si=6mRTW6VlSKerJEJu1eKgfQ&utm_source=copy-link
I am a Spiritual Teacher and Channeller with Aphantasia—the inability to voluntarily visualise—and a background in Science and Mathematics. I bring a clear, systematic, and logical approach to spiritual topics. This episode is a deep dive exploring "Are Inner Voices with Aphantasia – Ego, Spirit, or Mental Health?"When an inner voice, thought, or realisation arises during ordinary daily life, how do you know who, or what is actually speaking? Are you talking to yourself through everyday ego chatter or projection? Are you receiving genuine communication from your Higher Self, your spirit guides, or a loved one in spirit? Or are you noticing symptoms of a clinical mental health condition—such as trauma-based dissociation or a psychotic condition?Today, we are examining how to identify inner voices during ordinary, waking consciousness—rather than during meditation, hypnosis, or altered states of consciousness—through the lens of Aphantasia, cognitive neuroscience, signal physics, and exploratory research from organisations like the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS).Please note that this episode is for educational and self-exploration purposes only and does not constitute medical or psychiatric advice. We are breaking this down into five systematic steps:Mapping your Everyday Ego Baseline—how inner speech develops through three developmental stages, how physical stress alters self-talk, and why memory suppression backfires.Ego Projection vs. Spirit Communication with Aphantasia—the "seeing is believing" paradigm, contrasting waking brain activity with quieted states, signal physics, the Receiver Model, Aphantasia research, and IONS research exploring how everyday intuition works through your unique "Noetic Signature".The "Who is Speaking?" Test—a real-time tool for discernment using predictive processing science.Setting Boundaries & Grounding—establishing mental boundaries, closing active channels, and maintaining energetic autonomy.Clinical Safety Boundaries—differentiating spiritual communication from clinical mental health conditions, focusing on the two primary categories: trauma-based dissociation like Dissociative Identity Disorder, and psychotic conditions like Schizophrenia. If you want to dive deeper into the topics from today's episode, here are the links to the primary research:Aphantasia & Non-Visual Cognition: Zeman et al. This is a Non-Visual Guided Theta Hypnosis to Connect with Your Spirit Guide. If you have aphantasia like me—meaning you don't experience a visual mind's eye—or if you have a busy, analytical mind, or carry stress in your body, standard guided meditations often trigger 6 distinct biological and psychological barriers:Stress Mode — being stuck in high-alert, survival brainwaves. An Overactive Mind — your brain throwing constant thoughts at you to stay in control. The Picture Trap — feeling frustrated or blocked because you cannot see mental images.Rigid Expectations — demanding a giant visual sign or cinematic vision, or hearing a booming voice.Active Doubt — asking yourself in real-time, "Am I just making this up?"The Troubleshooting Mind — constantly over-analysing whether the meditation is working. This non-visual hypnosis is specifically designed to overcome all 6 of these barriers for you. You do not have to try, force, or visualise anything; you simply listen, rest, and let your nervous system adjust. To understand why this works, think of your brain, not as a visual projector, but as a radio receiver. In everyday life, your brain's primary evolutionary job is to act as a restrictive filter—suppressing over 99% of universal data, so you can focus strictly on physical survival. Everyday waking consciousness is just a narrow, restricted bandwidth. In this session, as we gently slow your brainwaves down into a deep Theta state (4 to 8 Hertz), we are simply turning down that noisy biological filter. We are soothing your Amygdala—your brain's internal threat detector and alarm bell. We are quieting your Prefrontal Cortex—your logical executive controller. And we are resting your Default Mode Network—your internal self-narrative generator and ego controller. When this internal static quietens, your internal antenna opens up to tune directly into the subtle frequency of higher guidance. You do not need an internal TV screen to connect. Spirit energy is a signal, received through physical sensations, inner hearing, and direct inner knowing. You remain in total control the entire time, fully empowered, and completely safe. Before we begin, please take a quick moment now to ensure you have a pen and paper placed right beside you for after this session.Make sure you are sitting or lying down in a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed. Turn off your phone notifications, adjust your position, and allow your body to settle comfortably. If you want to learn more about the 6 barriers to connection, listen to this episode:E55: How to Overcome the 6 Biggest Barriers to Spiritual Connection:https://open.spotify.com/episode/4lOF3VMywt5bvWshT35O07?si=Uh2k7b4YS8mFsUoeQZ8zLQ&utm_source=copy-linkIf you want to learn more about thinking of your brain as a radio receiver, listen to this episode:E75:Consciousness Research- Is the Brain a Generator or Receiver?https://open.spotify.com/episode/5O2nnJGliga54AKzS6GjtV?si=cfd-kzZJRemgigYZT3eMCA&utm_source=copy-link
