Description

Some days it’s football. Some days it’s politics. Some days it’s a story I just have to tell. The Counter is my daily show where I react to the biggest headlines, share what’s on my mind, and occasionally rant about fantasy football when my team inevitably falls apart.

DID SOMEBODY SAY 12 INNINGS?The Rays are STILL ALIVE after one of the craziest games of the entire postseason. Tampa Bay beat Milwaukee 4–3 in 12 innings after the Brewers came within three outs of winning their first World Series championship. Cooper Pratt seemingly delivered the dagger with a go-ahead homer in the top of the 12th, but then everything fell apart.Joey Ortiz’s error opened the door, and the Rays kicked it down. Liam Hicks singled. Jonny DeLuca tied the game. Chandler Simpson loaded the bases. And Ben Williamson, who was 1 for 15 in this postseason entering the at-bat, came off the bench and walked it off ON THE FIRST PITCH.I break down all of the chaos from Game 4, Milwaukee’s two costly errors, Tampa Bay beating the Brewers at their own game, and why Kevin Cash deserves credit after emptying his bench and managing like there was no tomorrow. And now? There IS a tomorrow.Jacob Misiorowski gets the ball for Milwaukee in Game 5, Tampa Bay still has to figure out its pitching situation, and the Rays are attempting something no team has ever done in the World Series.Milwaukee had them three outs from elimination. They let them get one.DON’T LET THEM GET TWO.New episodes Monday through Friday.Follow The Counter: @thecounterjp YouTube • Instagram • TikTok • X • Threads
The Rays are one loss away from elimination, and at this point, just wrap it up.Milwaukee embarrassed Tampa Bay 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series, exploding for eight runs in the fifth inning and taking a 3-0 series lead. After the Rays beat themselves in Games 1 and 2, this one was different. The Brewers simply beat them.Today, I break down Freddy Peralta's rough night, Kevin Cash's decision to leave Jonathan Aranda out of the starting lineup, and why my frustration with Cash goes all the way back to Blake Snell in Game 6 of the 2020 World Series. I'm not calling for Cash's job yet, but if Tampa Bay gets swept tonight, we're having that conversation tomorrow.More importantly, the standard has changed. The Rays have won 90-plus games, divisions and American League pennants. That's not enough anymore. This is a championship contender, and Milwaukee is exposing the biggest problem with the roster: too many easy outs. Then, the Cowboys beat the Eagles 38-21 on Monday Night Football. Dallas outright hits, Philadelphia +4.5 does not, Javonte Williams runs for 155 yards and CeeDee Lamb catches two touchdowns as the Cowboys improve to 3-4.And finally... JAY-Z PICKED JAY-Z?JAY-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show at SoFi Stadium, years after Roc Nation began working with the NFL on the show itself. I'll look at the ridiculous catalog he can pull from and the even bigger question: Who the hell is he bringing out?New episodes Monday through Friday.Follow The Counter: @thecounterjp YouTube • Instagram • TikTok • X • Threads
Kansas City... WHAT WAS THAT.The Chiefs went into Seattle with Patrick Mahomes, Kenneth Walker and one of my strongest upset picks of the weekend... and scored THREE POINTS. Seattle completely shut down Walker, Jaxon Smith-Njigba went off, and the Seahawks embarrassed Kansas City 20-3.And somehow, that was only part of a completely ridiculous NFL Sunday. The Steelers got the rock fight I expected in Paris. Cincinnati looked dead for an entire half before scoring 35 unanswered points against Baltimore. Atlanta survived its final chance with me by handing San Francisco its first loss. The Buccaneers suddenly came back from the dead and destroyed Carolina 43-13. Houston lost outright as a double-digit favorite. The Rams blew the rails off the Raiders. And Packers-Lions somehow became a 20-17 ROCK FIGHT.The picks? I survived outright at 7-6.Against the spread?4-8-1.Yeah. I GOT COOKED.Then I preview Monday Night Football between Dallas and Philadelphia. Dallas is my outright pick, but with Saquon Barkley expected to play, I'm taking Philadelphia +4.5 for now. If Saquon can't go or is severely limited, that changes everything. Then I take a journey through the new AP Poll, because the story of this college football season is simple.EVERYBODY IS LOSING.Only Miami, Utah and UCLA remain undefeated. Ohio State has inherited the No. 2 ranking after BYU's double-overtime loss at UCF, which means we officially have to ask the question:IS THE CURSE OF NO. 2 BACK?Notre Dame got No. 2 and lost to BYU.BYU got No. 2 and lost to UCF.Now Ohio State gets No. 2 and travels to USC.If the Buckeyes lose?THE CURSE IS OFFICIALLY BACK.I then go through the rest of the poll, from Indiana surviving one of the most disgusting football games you'll ever see at Michigan, to undefeated Utah climbing to No. 6, Texas jumping after beating Ole Miss, LSU blowing out Auburn, Northwestern continuing to win and Wisconsin somehow entering the rankings after beating USC 24-7 while throwing for only 58 yards. And finally...The Rays are down 2-0 in the World Series.I think they're in enormous trouble. Milwaukee looks like the better team, the Brewers' lineup has almost no easy outs and Tampa Bay still hasn't figured out that bullpen.BUT...The Rays have lost both games by ONE RUN.Game 3 is at home. And Freddy Peralta gets the baseball. So the mission is simple: STOP PLAYING SLOPPY BASEBALL. Stop giving Milwaukee extra outs. Stop running yourself into outs. Attack the strike zone. Let Freddy throw 97 and challenge Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich and William Contreras. And if Freddy is dealing?LET HIM PITCH.Win Game 3 and suddenly it's 2-1.Then Tuesday becomes a very different conversation.Lose again?Goodnight.New episodes Monday through Friday.Follow The Counter: @thecounterjp YouTube • Instagram • TikTok • X • Threads
I picked the Patriots to upset the Bears. I was wrong, and New England’s defense deserves to hear about it.Chicago beat New England 30-24 on Thursday night after the Patriots struggled to stop the run, struggled to get off the field and eventually left Drake Maye trying to carry the offense behind a battered offensive line. Maye still threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns, Rhamondre Stevenson somehow scored on a 48-yard catch-and-run with one second left before halftime, and New England STILL couldn’t finish the comeback. Then Cairo Santos drilled a 58-yard field goal late to effectively end it.After that, it’s time to pick the weekend. In college football, I’m calling multiple upsets. Auburn just walked into Athens and beat No. 1 Georgia, and now I’m taking the Tigers outright at home against No. 18 LSU. LaNorris Sellers gets another chance to be THAT DUDE when South Carolina hosts No. 11 Tennessee at Williams-Brice. No. 16 USC goes into Camp Randall, No. 10 Utah gets No. 14 Houston at Rice-Eccles, and I’m not hesitating on Ole Miss against Texas. HOTTY TODDY.Then I hit the NFL board. Atlanta gets ONE more chance before I completely write them off. Cincinnati gets the nod over Baltimore while Lamar Jackson’s status remains uncertain. I’m laying 10.5 with Houston against J.J. McCarthy, taking Detroit in what should be a shootout with Green Bay, fading the Rams with a Raiders upset pick and splitting Denver-Arizona.And on Sunday night? Seattle is favored by three against Patrick Mahomes and an undefeated Kansas City team, with Kenneth Walker returning to face his former team.Thank you very much.Give me the Chiefs.Have a great weekend, everyone!New episodes Monday through Friday.Follow The Counter: @thecounterjp YouTube • Instagram • TikTok • X • Threads
Anthony Edwards just ruined Giannis’ Miami debut.Giannis Antetokounmpo finally suited up for the Heat and dropped 35 points, but Anthony Edwards had other plans: 45 points, 10 rebounds and nine threes as Minnesota blew out Miami 131–106. Around the NBA, Kevin Durant and Jabari Smith Jr. both scored 30 as Houston crushed Dallas, while Phoenix somehow had an even worse night, losing 124–83 to Portland. Then it’s time for Thursday Night Football. The Patriots and Bears are both 4–2, Chicago is favored by three at home, and New England’s offensive line is beat up. I don’t care. Drake Maye has won three straight, including a road win in Buffalo, and right now I trust him more than Caleb Williams. I’m not taking New England to cover.I’M TAKING THE PATRIOTS TO WIN THE GAME.Finally, the World Series is here. The Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers were the best teams in their respective leagues, and now one of them will win the first World Series in franchise history. We break down two remarkably similar teams, Tampa Bay’s starting-pitching advantage, Milwaukee’s dominant bullpen, Jacob Misiorowski throwing triple digits, Junior Caminero staring him down, the importance of escaping Milwaukee with a split and the possibility of Freddy Peralta eventually facing his former team on baseball’s biggest stage. And yes, I’m biased.I picked Tampa Bay to win the World Series before October started.I’m not abandoning them now.But if the Rays get Milwaukee on the ropes, they cannot mess around. History shows how dangerous a 3–2 lead can become when Games 6 and 7 are on the road. The 2011 Rangers found out. The 2019 Astros found out. The 2025 Blue Jays found out.If Tampa gets to Milwaukee up 3–2, Game 6 IS Game 7.Finish the job.New episodes Monday through Friday.Follow The Counter: @thecounterjp YouTube • Instagram • TikTok • X • Threads
