Dale and Brian dig deeper into the pre-season action. From Manchester United's 2-0 win over Rangers to Erik ten Hag's 29-man squad travelling to the United States, we've got it covered on the latest instalment of the Strettycast. Leny Yoro is a Red and Casemiro is likely to remain at the club, despite being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. Dale asks Brian if he'd sacrifice Scott McTominay if it meant signing a new midfielder to address our problems in front of the defence... The lads also answer your questions. Thank you for your continued support of the Strettycast. It's appreciated! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Dale and Brian are joined by Shaun from Theatre of Red to discuss Manchester United's transfer approach this summer. Ineos plan to make more changes at the club and we will likely see a new approach to transfers and identifying targets. The lads feel strongly about buying players of the right profile and they are not necessarily ready-made stars. Perhaps United need to step away from targeting marque signings to focus on talent determined to be successful. It helps that Dan Ashworth has finally arrived as sporting director. Meanwhile, Matthijs de Ligt has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Fulham lead the race to sign Scott McTominay. We also look at the prospect of Manchester United selling the naming rights to Old Trafford. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Jay Motty from Stretford Paddock joins Dale and Brian for the first episode of the summer. Motty has been a friend of Stretty News from back when we started in 2010. It was great to catch up with him, hear how things are getting on at Stretford Paddock and get his thoughts on all things Manchester United. It was our first recording since the news broke that Erik ten Hag will remain as United manager. For now anyway... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Dale and Brian get together to reflect on an incredible performance in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Man City. Where was that tactical masterclass all season? Could it be that the injury line is more than an excuse? Does the FA Cup triumph save Erik ten Hag? These are all questions Manchester United fans are asking themselves this week. Episode 201 includes discussion and analysis from the game and our feelings on United's end-of-season review. Thank you for your continued support. Learn more about your ad choices. So, here it is, the FA Cup final preview with Dale and Brian. It's been a disappointing season as Manchester United finish eighth in the Premier League and fail in Europe. Somehow we've a chance to salvage something with an FA Cup final against Man City on Saturday. Dale and Brian discuss Manchester United documentaries following the release of '99' on Amazon Prime. Feelings are shared ahead of a mammoth task at Wembley. Moreover, this week's listener question pose further questions ahead of the final. Learn more about your ad choices. On this week’s episode of the Strettycast we analyse the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, plus Barmy Article editor Andy Slator joins us to talk about the women’s team winning the FA Cup over the weekend. Title-chasing Arsenal edged past United at Old Trafford on Sunday as Erik ten Hag’s side fell to their 14th league defeat of the season. There is a growing acceptance that United have not got the players to compete in these fixtures, but that doesn’t make the 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace any better. Casemiro is attracting more criticism with every game he plays at centre-back. It’s only getting worse but his days at Old Trafford are numbered. Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Old Trafford for the game to carry out a matchday survey. This somehow led to criticism for the co-owner, who had plenty to say to an Old Trafford employee ahead of the game. He would not have been impressed to see the roof leaking again.  David Moyes or Marc Skinner Although the women’s team made history by winning the club’s first-ever major trophy, Marc Skinner isn’t very popular among fans after performances dropped from a cliff after an impressive 2022/23 campaign. The jury appears to be out on Skinner even after winning the FA Cup final. We also discuss the revisionism about former manager Casey Stoney. Slator also spoke to us about a memorable day out at Wembley with United beating Tottenham 4-0. Avram Glazer was in attendance, but not Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Learn more about your ad choices. Brian is joined by Stretty News royalty, Jonathan Shrager as they sit back with a few cans to take a deep breath and try to make sense of the latest at a United From the Burnley capitulation to a potential banana skin Selhurst Park poses, the on-pitch issues are plentiful as are the injuries. The off-field is even more intriguing with a squad being put up for sale and Bruno not too quick to close the door shut on a potential exit Sit back, relax and have a listen to the latest offering from the StrettyCast Learn more about your ad choices. Dale and Brian review a chaotic FA Cup semi-final at Wembley which went to penalties before Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Premier League. You would be mistaken if you thought these results would bring positivity to United because the media has been too busy tearing strips out of Erik ten Hag. The lads have their say on that and more. We also dedicate some time discussing the latest Fans Forum meeting, as well as our listener questions. Thank you for the continued support this season. Learn more about your ad choices. Dale and Brian dwell on Manchester United's 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, the added drama that came from social media after the game and dressing room bickering. United were lucky to escape with a point from the Vitality Stadium on Sunday and the result means our Champions League hopes are barely hanging by a thread. That result only puts more pressure on Erik ten Hag, so the lads question whether the writing is on the wall for United's manager. The lads also look forward to a trip to Wembley this weekend where United take on Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final. Dale and Brian would like to thank our listeners for their continued support plus the questions submitted for each episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Manchester United dented Liverpool’s title hopes as Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo scored two wonderful goals in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. After a devastating result at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night, Dale was in Manchester to catch the action with some familiar Strettycast voices. Learn more about your ad choices. Dale and Brian are joined by fellow Stretty News writers Matt and Fabiola for a chat about all things Manchester United during the international break. That, of course, means a discussion around the timely Gareth Southgate links. Try not to shudder as we look at the prospect of Waistcoat landing the biggest job in football. The international break brought more (deserved) hype to Kobbie Mainoo, but hear why we're concerned about the English media. It shouldn't come as a surprise. Furthermore, Fabiola gives us some insight into the academy. Sit back, relax and get yourself comfy, it’s episode 194. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Amad Diallo sends Old Trafford into a 120th-minute frenzy as Manchester United dispatch Liverpool en route to an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Shaun Connolly, Dale O'Donnell and Brian Murphy run through the 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup that will go down as one of the best cup ties of all time. Several players stood up to the plate to warrant a result that gets the lads talking about Erik ten Hag's job security. Surely, now the objective to win the FA Cup becomes more achievable after a favourable semi-final draw against Coventry City, who knocked out Wolves on Saturday. The semi-final will take place on April 20, although no kick-off time has been announced yet. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Two penalties were enough to seal three points against Everton, as Manchester United made it three wins from five in the Premier League. We're digesting the performance, looking ahead to Liverpool in the FA Cup, a nonsensical fancam outburst and your questions on episode 192 the Strettycast. Learn more about your ad choices. Shaun, Dale and Brian digest events at the Etihad, the frustrations of Marcus Rashford Rashford, an FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool and, of course, your questions. The sheer thrill of Marcus Rashford’s stunning opener after 8 minutes led us to believe we were on the cusp of a magnificent victory away at City, but the Reds couldn’t keep their rivals out in the second half and we ultimately proved to be second best as many expected. We discuss the performance as well as Erik ten Hag’s gameplan and the many wild reacts that followed on from the 3-1 defeat. Some players, such as Casemiro and Jonny Evans, were unable to sustain a 90-minute performance against a team of City’s quality. There’s also a few who are simply not good enough. United did not have the quality on the pitch, or squad depth, to make Pep Guardiola’s side as we slipped 11 points adrift of fourth-place Aston Villa. Brian Murphy and Dale O'Donnell are joined by Jonny Escott after a weekend which saw Manchester United’s unbeaten run come crashing to an end, after a buoyant Fulham side put Erik Ten Hag’s men to the sword. The upbeat morale since the turn of the year has taken a drastic hit amongst reds, Ten Hag has returned to the in, out, shake it all about managerial merry go round once more and question marks are being raised around many of the first team squad and if they are to be kept at the club past the summer transfer window. A defeat the weekend saw our top 4 chase come to a dramatic halt, or has it? And the never ending injury list at United continues to do damage.  We discuss this and much more on episode 190 of the Strettycast. Learn more about your ad choices. Henry Winter, chief football writer at The Times, joins the Strettycast to discuss a range of topics surrounding Sir Jim Ratcliffe's purchase of 27.7% of Manchester United. The deal will enable Ineos Sports group to take control of football operations at the club as Sir Jim Ratcliffe becomes co-owner. Winter offers incredible insight throughout from his dealings with Dan Ashworth to Erik ten Hag. How he got the infamous hairdryer treatment from Sir Alex Ferguson and why he despises the Glazers. Shaun, Dale and Brian also take a look at this weekend's Premier League clash against Fulham. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Shaun, Dale and Brian are together again in the hope that Manchester United can continue their unbeaten run in 2024 with more wins. This time, it’s time to reflect on a huge 2-1 win in the race for top four. Scott McTominay earned that win with another late goal, prompting magnificent scenes in the away end at Villa Park. We dive into how McTominay has put the work in to find a unique role in a side he was almost pushed out of last summer. In defence, Harry Maguire was his fabulous best. United dominated set-pieces as a result and he recorded an assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s opener as the Dane made it five goals in as many league matches. The pursuit of Champions League football continues this weekend with United’s first ever trip to Luton Town. Thanks for supporting the Strettycast. Learn more about your ad choices.
