the Story of Glen Race

the Story of Glen Race

2020-10-2101:23:421

For a period of weeks, in May of 2007, it appeared a serial killer may have been targeting Halifax Nova Scotia’s gay community. When a suspect was identified and arrested at the Mexican - USA border, it turned out to be something all together different. To put it plainly, Glen Race thought he was destroying vampires.  To help me talk through the story, and to join in the discussion surrounding the many elements to this case, I've invited my good friend and fellow podcaster Kristi Lee (Canadian True Crime) to join me. In this episode of Nighttime, we are going to be discussing the story of Glen Race.  Credits: Musical Theme: Noir Tokyo by Monty Datta https://soundcloud.com/montydatta Contact: Website: https://www.nighttimepodcast.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/NightTimePod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NightTimePod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nighttimepod Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/nighttimepod Email: NightTimePodcast@gmail.com Premium Feed: https://www.patreon.com/nighttimepodcast Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/Nighttimepodcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Clarenville RCMP Constable Jim Blackwood responded to a report of an unusual object in the sky, he expected it to be the next in a series of recent reports that all resulted in nothing more than a confused citizen describing a vague light. When he arrived to the scene he found a group of mystified witnesses viewing the still clearly visible object with binoculars. He knew then that this report was unique. The incredible events which unfolded during the roughly two hour long sighting would fuel both an international media whirlwind and a localized UFO craze.   In this episode, the amazing details of the 1978 Clarenville, Newfoundland UFO sighting will be told by the now retired Cst. Jim Blackwood.   Links: Buy a limited edition Clarenville UFO Coin - https://bit.ly/2HWaK1Z Enter the UFO Coin Giveaway NightTime Blog post containing documents/video related to this sighting - https://www.nighttimepodcast.com/blogmaster/clarenville-ufo Jim's ‘Racoon Whisperer’ YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/vjamb Contact: Website: https://www.nighttimepodcast.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/NightTimePod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NightTimePod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nighttimepod Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/nighttimepodcast Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/Nighttimepodcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Once upon a time, I loved Tim Horton's. I drank their coffee and I ate their fresh baked goods, but those days are gone. The love affair is long over. To put it bluntly, I think they suck now.  What puzzles me, is that it wasn't always this way and that's why I'm left with burning questions...   When did they lose their way, why did they lose their way, and will they ever get back the magic they used to have?  It wasn't until I happened upon a piece of investigative journalism in a MacLean's magazine that the full picture of this betrayal became apparent.  The piece was titled "How Tim Horton's lost it's way" and as I read it the veil of marketing that had obscured the slow decline of Tim Horton’s was forcefully pulled away and Canada's dirty secret was exposed.    Some of the points raised in that article will be discussed and expanded upon in this episode as in this episode, I'm joined by author and journalist Corey Mintz.  Our topic is the DECLINE of Tim Hortons.  Links referenced in the episode: Corey Mintz on twitter: https://twitter.com/coreymintz How Tim Hortons lost it’s way:  https://www.macleans.ca/opinion/how-tim-hortons-lost-its-way/ Recreating Tim Hortons Menu for the Better: https://www.macleans.ca/opinion/recreating-the-tim-hortons-menu-for-the-better/ Tim Hortons Needs to Stop Dreaming: https://www.macleans.ca/opinion/tim-hortons-needs-to-stop-dreaming/ Contact: Website: https://www.nighttimepodcast.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/NightTimePod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NightTimePod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nighttimepod Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/nighttimepodcast Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/Nighttimepodcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
At the time of her disappearance, 27 year old Holly Clark was pursuing her dream to be a professional musician in Hamilton, Ontario. However suddenly, and with little warning, she seemed to find herself on the brink of crisis.  On the morning of January 10th, 2020 Holly phoned her parents in Calgary to request help returning home. During the call Holly would share the frightening, yet vague, details of a traumatic experience that led her to spending the prior night running for her life from either a real or imagined threat.  It was obvious she needed help but shortly before her father arrived, she walked out of her apartment and into the cold air and pouring rain.  In this episode of Nighttime we will again be joined by her father Dave and employer Elle to discuss the heartbreaking update to this case. In this 'Nighttime Classic' episode, Randy and I revisit the 2017 episode covering strange stories set in Tim Hortons restaurants.  Episode Summary Tim Hortons Coffee Shop undoubtedly plays a role in the lives of many Canadians. That said, Canadians can be strange and Tim Hortons can be a strange place. This episode sets out to prove it. This episode compiles a collection of stranger than fiction true stories that have taken place in our beloved Timmies. In this episode, we are going to come face to face with one of most prosecuted people in Nova Scotia's storied history. Our guest is a criminal so hardened that when I asked him for an estimate on the length of his rap sheet, he simply drew a blank and giggled. But, that's probably for the better as listing the charges this man has faced would be about as interesting, and as exhausting, as reading through the Canadian Criminal Code. But, as you will soon learn, there is much more to it. when the layers of legalese are peeled back this isn't the story of a career criminal. It's the story of a man who simply wanted to hang around at tim horton's parking lot drinking coffee with his friends. The problems started when he lost his license and bought of horse as a way to get around town. If this man on horseback was a can of gasoline... the match that ignited it would be his dispute with the management of his small town Tim Horton. After several instances of his horse answering the call of nature on their property.... He was told that he, nor his chestnut quarter horse were no longer welcome on their property... a demand he refused to obey. Now, nearly 20 years after the events that made him and his horse international news, He is willing to tell his story. In this episode of Nighttime, we are going to be joined by ‘The Coffee Cowboy’ Robert Chetwynd. In this Nighttime Classic, Randy and I revisit the 2014 Kensington PEI UFO Event (originally covered Jan 2016) Episode Summary When Moncton resident John Sheppard arrived at The Twin Shores Campground near Kensington PEI, he never would have imagined he would be avoiding one of the worst mass murders in his province's history and stepping into an entirely different battle ground he hardly knew existed. While putting out the bonfire late in the evening of June 4, 2014, John witnessed unusual lights in the sky over the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and captured 22 minutes of it on his cellphone. When CBC covered the sighting, which was investigated and labeled a "confirmed unknown flying object", skeptics fired back with alternate explanations prompting CBC to produce a follow up article the next day. This episode includes both John Sheppard who describes the event and UFO researcher, author, and pilot Don Ledger who provides his opinion on the other proposed theories.  Links John's Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvnvIdLUmR0 Contact: Support the show/premium feed: https://www.patreon.com/nighttimepodcast Contact: https://www.nighttimepodcast.com/contact Website: https://www.nighttimepodcast.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/NightTimePod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NightTimePod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nighttimepod Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/Nighttimepodcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In short, UNICOLE is an influential online spiritual teacher who leads a group called UNICULT. The longer version however, is way more out there. The genesis of this episode was an email I received from a listener of Nighttime letting me know that they, and several of their friends in Toronto, had recently joined a fast growing online spiritual group based in California named UNICULT. In the email they explained that the cult was led by a part human/part alien pop singer named UNICOLE. My response was something between what the f*&K? and this is why I love the internet! This kind of thing absolutely does it for me. Aliens, psychics, cults, and the dark corners of the internet... I couldn't resist learning more about UNICOLE, UNICOLE’s many followers, and their cult.  Rather than just telling you what I've learned from the many articles and the seemingly endless videos about UNICULT and UNICOLE, I went right to the interstellar source. In this episode, we are going to hear the story of UNICOLE and UNICULT as told by the self proclaimed cult leader... UNICOLE. In this episode, we are going to be joined by one of the more colourful characters to ever grace Canada's music charts.  Our guest is as well known for his awe-inspiring talents on the fiddle as he is for the strange stories and controversy scattered throughout his 30 year career. If you followed Canadian music in the 90s, you know Ashley Macisaac.  His 1995 album 'Hi how are you today' went double platinum and in the process helped bring about a sort of renaissance for the fiddle and Celtic music.  This episode however won't be about Ashley Macissac's impact on popular music and it won't be about his various public relations missteps that shocked and appalled many of his more traditional fans.  Ashley MacIsaac is joining me here on Nighttime to speak publicly for the first time about something very personal and very important to him.  UFOs are, and have been, a part of his life since childhood.  Buckle up and get ready for a bumpy ride through the strange world of Ashley MacIsaac.  Links: Nightcap post show discussion: Patreon.com/nighttimepodcast Ashley MacIsaac on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FiddlerAshleyMacIsaac Ashley MacIsaac’s appearance on Conan': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tIT8VuZ92c Join the UFOs Above Canada Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ufosabovecanada Ashley MacIsaac's ‘Sleepy Maggie’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoApELfgWcg Ashley MacIsaac’s ‘MacDougall’s Pride’: https://youtu.be/PUBCoukhtQE Ashley MacIsaac’s ‘Bitch’: https://youtu.be/yqTn87UXwa8 Credits: Musical Theme: Blunted to Deaf by Fortnite Beats Contact: Website: https://www.nighttimepodcast.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/NightTimePod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NightTimePod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nighttimepod Email: NightTimePodcast@gmail.com Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/nighttimepodcast Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/Nighttimepodcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
According to him, the story starts in the 1970s when two extraterrestrials entered his home through his television set and took him aboard their spacecraft. While on board, he claims to have been taught engineering concepts unknown to mankind.  From that point on, David Hamel would dedicate nearly every cent and every moment he had trying to build a flying saucer with hopes of one day travelling to their planet.  So...  yeah.. this is a weird one.  In tonight's episode we will be joined by Dr. Matthew Hayes who directed a film about this story 'the Granite Man of Gilmour'  Our topic is David Hamel and his Granite Saucer.  Links: Watch ‘the Granite Man of Gilmour’: https://vimeo.com/349086573 Contact Dr. Hayes: https://www.theonlymatthewhayes.com/contact Matthew Hayes Twitter: https://twitter.com/freefoodfilms Credits: Musical Theme: Noir Tokyo by Monty Datta https://soundcloud.com/montydatta Contact: Website: https://www.nighttimepodcast.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/NightTimePod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NightTimePod Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nighttimepod Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/nighttimepod Email: NightTimePodcast@gmail.com Premium Feed: https://www.patreon.com/nighttimepodcast Podcast Recommendation: EXCUSE ME, THAT'S ILLEGAL! : https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/excuse-me-thats-illegal/id1526994548?i=1000487578950 Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/Nighttimepodcast See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This story centers around a famous professional wrestling entertainer, who in 2007 while at the peak of his career, brutally murdered his wife and young son. Why he did it, and what led to this tragedy, has remained the source of speculation. Then, how this was handled by his employer, WWE, is a story all in it’s own. We are going to get into all of it. In this episode of Nighttime we are joined by my good friend (and a life long wrestling fan) Aaron Corbett. Our topic is the rise and fall of the Canadian Crippler, Chris Benoit. incredibly inappropriate to ask the victim "do you think if you passed out things would have progressed further?" the interviewer should know better and give his head a shake

"I would kill people with poor looking genetics....". But bitch, you have the worst acne ever! Who are you to judge. This girl just wanted to kill people who she thought was prettier than her. She obviously had self esteem issues and decided killing people was better than learning to overcome. I think the Nazi shit was just a cover so she could pretend to have a cause.

I wonder what Lyndsay S. would say about the 5+ hour podcast on Columbine done by Ryan Kraus, the Cold Case Murder Mystery podcast guy. His pods delve into psychology and humanity in a way I've never heard before. I believe he's pretty much spot on. Pretty incredible. I'd love to hear Lyndsay S's response to the pod.
