Inside the Box could be characterized as "outside the box", a short video animation done frame by frame the old fashioned way using vector drawings, photoshop in movie mode, very basic. The idea was imaginary holographic boxes and artworks in a museum setting. The art, the animation, the sound and production by K.A. Bloom.

Story and reading by Paul Squires. Arrangement and sound effects by Kathi Bloom.
Somebody To Love  This piece began as what I took to be "a laid back elevator music version of Somebody to Love" the song written by Darby Slick, former bro-in-law of Grace Slick,  "first recorded by the 60's rock n roll band The Great Society" and Jefferson Airplane performed and recorded it later, and transformed it.  "Rolling Stone magazine ranked Jefferson Airplane's version No. 274 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time."(wikipedia)   Yet, I didn't finish my arrangement by the deadline (Taxi A&R), and then made it not so laid back. I added some sort of grating elements imo, the vocals have always seemed to me to be glass-shatteringly intense and riveting and the lyrics both captivating and baffling. So I  beefed up to my hearts delight:) You gotta do what you gotta do...
These four pieces are part of a series of nine video groups. To be projeced/displayed interactive/simultaneously (installation). Here, the movement of the squares were determined by a set of 100 drawings, random placements of drawings on consecutive animation pages —footage via frame to frame and action scanning.   The sound was composed using a graphic score corresponding to the color and design of the image.   The formula allows basic elements of each separate piece to correspond so it is possible to play them separately or in concert or with any variation.   For future interactive installation, options to freeze action, print a frame, play individually, or simultaneously. Ideally another sound interwoven would be a random sampling of natural sound near the showplace (contact microphones/recording/audio feed)

Original melody written a few years back, part of a collection being brought back and worked on.
My nephew Ben did the character drawing for this piece, he was 7 1/2 years oldn in time. Radar Man is strong like a stone, round like a mushroom cap, and with powers so mighty he can fly.

a grid of color squares. each color is pre-assigned a note value, octave and duration. the grid is laser-scanned several times using selective sets of compatible tunings. the output generates 6 voices each scan for which the sound is also set, but can be varied. these audio tracks are treated and mixed - le voila' - btw, the grid is 3D, what you see here is one flat view, 3D images showing depths and angles coming soon -  to be continued w's.i.p.
