PESHAWAR - While approval of a PC1 document by the Provincial Sports Directorate has brought temporary relief to daily wage employees who were laid off since July 2023, the lack of transparency surrounding the document has caused further anxiety.Employees report that a previous PC1 submitted last year covered their salaries until June 2024. However, the newly approved PC1 is silent on the duration of employment.Sources within the Sports Directorate suggest that under the previous PC1, daily wage employees, including coaches, might only receive one month's salary. Some departments have assured their employees of receiving arrears, while coaches are reportedly being offered a monthly salary of Rs. 32,000. This raises concerns about the remaining nine months of unpaid wages. If the new PC1 is indeed for a shorter period (March to June 2024), these employees would face unemployment again after June, coinciding with the end of the government's financial year.Adding to the confusion, an initial PC1 reportedly included 294 daily wage employees. This number was later revised, but the details of the revision remain undisclosed. Employees question why, if funds were allocated for 294 people, their identities weren't verified using ID cards and phone numbers.Further allegations involve a barber who previously cut a former Chief Minister's hair being included on the daily wage list and receiving a salary through someone else's phone. Additionally, a disabled relative of an employee was allegedly placed on the swimming pool lifeguard list, and a butcher from Abbottabad who never performed any duties was also reportedly on the payroll for a year. These discrepancies highlight a lack of transparency within the Sports Directorate's daily wage employee system. The employees deserve clear communication regarding the duration of their employment and the allocation of funds.
Peshawar , In a shocking display of disregard for athletes' needs, a video has surfaced online showing officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate playing cricket on a football ground that has been closed to players for the past two years. The incident has sparked outrage among the sports community, who are questioning the priorities of the Sports Directorate. The football ground and tartan track at the Peshawar Sports Complex were built at a cost of 55 crores rupees specifically for the use of athletes. However, despite being fully constructed, the football ground has been inaccessible to players for practice. The Sports Directorate claims that allowing players to use the ground would damage it, but this explanation has fallen on deaf ears. The recent video, which shows Sports Directorate officials playing cricket on the closed ground, has been widely shared on social media, drawing strong criticism from athletes and sports enthusiasts. Many have expressed disappointment that the very people responsible for providing facilities to athletes are themselves misusing the grounds. The incident has also raised concerns about the overall mismanagement of sports facilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Athletes and sports organizations are calling on the provincial government to take immediate action and ensure that sports facilities are properly maintained and made accessible to those who need them most.#KPKSportsScandal #VIPCricketOnClosedGround #AthletesDeniedAccess #SportsDirectorateMismanagement #DemandForAccountability #KhyberPakhtunkhwa #PakistanSports #Cricket #Football
Former President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association, Syed Aqil Shah, inaugurated a new snooker academy in Peshawar Cantt, marking another step toward promoting cue sports in the region. Addressing the attendees at the opening ceremony, he appreciated the initiative, calling it a positive opportunity for youth engagement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Sharing a personal anecdote, Shah recalled a past effort where he brought snooker equipment from Singapore and Delhi—a time when such gear was rare in Peshawar. He mentioned an encounter with Imran Khan during a flight from Delhi, where Khan had asked about the equipment he was carrying. Shah told him it was snooker gear, brought in to help promote the sport locally. “Back then, you couldn’t find it here. Things have changed now,” he added. He also praised the provincial Sports Directorate for establishing a snooker academy at the Hayatabad Sports Complex. However, Shah didn’t hold back from raising an important issue—he questioned the whereabouts of a full snooker table that was provided to the Peshawar Sports Complex during his tenure as Sports Minister. “That table was our property,” he said, demanding its return and urging the relevant authorities to take action. In a significant announcement, Shah revealed that due to continuous efforts—especially those of his nephew, who has been instrumental in sports development—the military will soon become part of the KP Olympic family. He cited the army’s support in promoting cricket, especially through venues like Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium, as a sign of their growing involvement. “Institutional support is essential for the growth of sports, and we’re seeing real progress thanks to persistent work,” he added. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by KP Olympic Association Secretary Zulfiqar Butt and Taekwondo Association representative Ilyas Afridi.
Peshawar  - An alarming misuse of public sports infrastructure has been uncovered in Peshawar, where the second floor of the District Sports Office (DSO) building is reportedly being used as an unauthorized residential facility by students and other individuals. Eyewitnesses report that the area is being used like a private hostel, complete with round-the-clock air conditioner use — all within a facility meant for athletic administration and development.Sources confirm that the space has not been officially designated or approved for residential purposes by either the provincial Sports Directorate or the district administration. Yet, multiple individuals with no formal association with sports are living there. Residents of the area told this reporter that the occupants are neither athletes nor office staff, though some of them can be seen playing football in the evenings — possibly to avoid suspicion.A departmental insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, remarked:"This is a complete lack of transparency. Students are living here, and some outsiders as well. This feels less like a sports office and more like a private guest house. The ACs run day and night — but who’s paying the bill?"The situation points to an apparent case of public property misuse and could indicate corruption and mismanagement of state resources. The sports department has not issued any formal accommodation permits for the building, raising serious questions about who allowed this arrangement and under what terms.Local athletes and sports organizations are demanding a full inquiry."This facility was meant for athletes, not for private rentals. Our youth are being deprived of sports facilities while these rooms are given out like rental property," said a former district-level athlete. There are concerns that senior officials may be aware of the situation but are deliberately ignoring it in exchange for personal gain, possibly rent or other informal arrangements. If proven true, this would mark yet another scandal in the mismanagement of sports infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — a province already plagued by multiple reports of corruption in sports-related affairs.
Peshawar: The Anti-Corruption Department has launched an inquiry into the controversial return of funds allocated for the construction of a sports complex in Leeloni, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. An official notice has been sent to the Provincial Sports Directorate, demanding a detailed report on the matter.Sources revealed that during the caretaker government's tenure, a modern sports complex was planned for Leeloni. However, not only was the project abruptly halted, but a suspicious letter was also sent to the Deputy Commissioner, allegedly from the Finance Department, instructing that the allocated millions be returned to the Provincial Sports Directorate.Upon contacting the Finance Department for clarification, the Deputy Commissioner was informed that the letter was fake. Investigations further revealed that the allocated funds were supposed to revert directly to the Finance Department, not to any other authority, raising serious concerns over the attempted misappropriation. As a result, the construction of the Leeloni Sports Complex was permanently scrapped, and the funds intended for public welfare were mishandled. This scandal has emerged as a major blow within the "1,000 Sports Projects" initiative announced for the province.Interestingly, the official under whose watch these irregularities occurred has since left office, and, as is often the case, the new officials are claiming ignorance of the entire episode. The Anti-Corruption Department has formally demanded all relevant documents and records, initiating a preliminary investigation. It remains to be seen whether the culprits will be identified and held accountable, or if the case will simply fade into bureaucratic oblivion.
Peshawar: The proposed sports complex project in Chouha Gujar has also fallen victim to the caretaker government’s decision to halt it. The Anti-Corruption Department has now officially taken notice of the issue.According to sources, the Sports Directorate had acquired land for this project and built walls as part of the preliminary work for the construction of the sports complex. The aim of this project was to provide sports facilities to the nearby areas of Peshawar, particularly Chamakni and other neighboring regions. However, during the caretaker government’s tenure, the project was abruptly canceled. The "Section Four" status of the land was also revoked, and now, the valuable land is being sold off in plots. The situation has worsened because the provincial government is now facing a shortage of land for the construction of a horse riding club. A horse riding club, with an estimated cost of 20 crore rupees, was planned, but there is no available land for its development. Attempts have been made to find land in Hayatabad and Regi, but no resolution has been found so far. What is even more concerning is that millions of rupees were spent on building walls for the Chouha Gujar sports complex, which now stands abandoned. The Anti-Corruption Department has launched an investigation into the matter to determine why the project was halted, who ordered the removal of Section Four, and who is behind the selling of the land.
The state of the athletes' hostel at Peshawar Sports Complex has seriously declined, depicting the mismanagement in the province's sports sector. Sources state that the hostel doors have been termite-infested, and most of the rooms' washrooms are beset with dampness and mold, making it an unhealthy and unsafe place for the athletes. Moreover, the hostel ceilings are experiencing water seepage, raising fears about possible flooding and water damage. In spite of the allocation of funds every year for the maintenance of this facility, these funds have not been spent efficiently, and the condition of the building has deteriorated year by year. This hostel is the sole residential facility for sportsmen in Peshawar, but its maintenance and upkeep are still grossly neglected. The inaction and silence of the provincial Sports Directorate's administration cast grave doubts about the government's intentions regarding the welfare of athletes. For the athletes, this is the only hostel and training facility where they can reside, but their requirements are being totally neglected.Experts believe that if this matter is not resolved at once, it will not only affect the health and safety of the athletes but also damage the image of the sports industry in the province.
PESHAWAR, - A major corruption scandal has rocked the sports sector, with widespread reports of "ghost employees" and fraudulent deputations crippling development and draining public funds.Sources within the Sports Directorate reveal that numerous employees, particularly those in Grade 4 positions, are absent from their primary duties, instead serving in other departments or performing personal tasks for high-ranking officials. These transfers, often termed "deputations," frequently lack proper authorization or documentation. At the same time, "ghost employees" – individuals who exist only on paper – continue to draw salaries and benefits without ever reporting to work. This illegal practice is not only wasting valuable resources but also severely impeding the progress of sports initiatives across the region.Experts warn that the ongoing corruption threatens the credibility of sports institutions and could undermine public trust in the government's ability to manage crucial sectors. The scandal has sparked outrage among athletes and sports enthusiasts, who are demanding immediate action to address the systemic issues."This is a betrayal of the youth," said a local athlete, requesting anonymity. "The funds that should be used to train and support us are being siphoned off by these ghost employees. It's a slap in the face to every hardworking athlete."The government has vowed to launch a full investigation into the matter and bring those responsible to justice. However, critics argue that systemic reforms are needed to prevent such abuses from happening in the future.Implementing regular and thorough verification of all government employees. Digitizing employee records for improved attendance tracking and accountability. Enacting and enforcing stricter laws against fraudulent deputations.  Establishing a robust legal framework to ensure swift and severe punishment for those involved in corruption. The future of sports development in the region hangs in the balance, as stakeholders await concrete action from the authorities. The issue of ghost employees and fake deputations in the sports sector is a grave concern with far-reaching consequences. It not only leads to financial losses but also undermines the health and development of the youth. By understanding the root causes of this problem and implementing effective measures, we can safeguard the future of sports and ensure that resources are used to promote the growth of genuine athletes.

Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – The recent felling of trees at the Mardan Sports Complex has sparked public concern, compounded by a significant delay in responding to a Right to Information (RTI) request seeking details about the project. A Peshawar-based journalist filed the RTI application on January 8, 2025, requesting crucial information about the environmental impact and legality of the tree removal. However, as of February 17, 2025, the 15-day legal deadline for a response has passed without any communication from the relevant authorities. The RTI application specifically requests the following information:Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Confirmation of whether an EIA was conducted before the Mardan Sports Complex improvement project commenced.Tree Felling Details: The precise number of trees felled, their species, and any plans for compensatory replanting.Legal Status: All relevant permits and environmental clearances obtained for the project.Public Consultation: Details of any public consultations held prior to the project's start.Project Cost and Funding: A breakdown of the project's total cost and its funding sources.Frustrated by the lack of response, the journalist sent a reminder letter on February 17, 2025, reiterating the urgent need for the requested information. The letter warns that if the information is not provided immediately, the matter will be escalated to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Commission, other relevant authorities, and the judiciary. The silence surrounding the RTI request has fueled public anxiety. Residents are increasingly concerned about the environmental consequences of the tree felling and the transparency of the project. They are demanding that the authorities provide the requested information promptly to allow for public scrutiny of the project's impact and its adherence to environmental regulations. The delayed response to the RTI request has raised questions about potential irregularities and further eroded public trust in the project's management.  The stumps of the felled trees now stand as a stark reminder of the information gap and the ongoing struggle for transparency in local development projects.Report By Musarrat Ullah Jan free lance sports Journalist from peshawar#Mardan #SportsComplex #KPK #KP #Environment #SportsIssues #EnvironmentalConcerns #TreeFelling #RTI #RightToInformation #Transparency #PublicAccountability #MardanSports #KPGovernment #InformationDelay #EnvironmentalImpact #Justice #Pakistan #KhyberPakhtunkhwa
Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa - An atmosphere of secrecy surrounds the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cultural and Tourism Authority's (KPTCA) highly publicized safari service, which was inaugurated with great fanfare in March 2024.Nine months later, the promised excursions to the province's stunning tourist attractions are largely undocumented, raising questions regarding transparency and accountability in the KPTCA.The safari facility, meant to highlight KP's natural beauty, has turned out to be a mystery. Information about how many safaris were operated, where they were taken, and how the passenger list was compiled is nowhere to be found. The KPTCA has also kept silent about the monetary side of the project, evoking suspicions of how public funds were being spent. Was the safari service an individual endeavor on the part of the KPTCA, or a cooperative venture with another organization? The response, as for the safari trails themselves, is one of secrecy.Adding to the drama is the seeming unwillingness of the KPTCA to heed Right to Information (RTI) applications. A citizen had made an RTI application nine months ago for information on the safari service, but there has been no response. Another application filed in January 2024 met the same fate. The KPTCA's stonewalling has only fueled greater public suspicion and raised grave issues about transparency.Local people and civil society groups are calling for an explanation. They are insisting that ventures using public money should be transparent to the public. Failure to be transparent in the case of the safari service, along with the silence from the KPTCA about other ventures and staff information, has fostered a sense of suspicion. It is charged that the KPTCA is purposefully holding back information, hampering accountability and stifling intelligent public discussion about tourism planning in the province. The elusive safari has emerged as a metaphor for the wider challenges to transparency and accountability within the KPTCA. The demand for open government and access to information is becoming more vocal, with citizens demanding greater transparency on how public money is being spent and how decisions affecting tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being taken. Until the KPTCA illuminates the safari service and how it functions, the project may become a victim of its own secrecy and the public lost in the haze of unanswered questions.Report By Musarrat Ullah Jan free lance sports Journalist from peshawar#TourismKP #SafariService #TransparencyMatters #RightToInformation #PublicFunds #TourismDevelopment #KPKGovernment #RTIRequest #Accountability #FreedomOfInformation #VanishingSafari #KPTCA #OpenGovernance #KPtourism #PakistanTourism
The Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a pivotal government department tasked with promoting sports and physical activities, finds itself in a dire space shortage crisis. With a significant role in fostering athletic development, the Directorate is now forced to share its already limited office space with staff from other projects, leading to operational inefficiencies and concerns over resource allocation. The controversy stems from the Project Director's decision to rent office space within the Directorate's premises to accommodate staff from two major development projects: the Kohat Development Authority and the "1,000 Sports Facilities Project." For the past four months, the second floor of the Provincial Sports Directorate in Peshawar has served as a makeshift workspace for both projects, alongside the Sports Directorate for merged districts. However, this arrangement has displaced many employees, leaving them unable to work effectively due to the lack of adequate facilities.Despite repeated attempts to obtain a response from the Director General, no official clarification has been provided, further fueling suspicions about transparency and the efficient use of government resources. The silence raises questions about the management's priorities and its commitment to addressing critical operational issues. This situation severely impacts the Directorate's ability to oversee and implement sports development programs across the province. With two distinct projects operating from the same location, the risk of mismanagement and inefficiency looms large. Employees describe the environment as chaotic, with officials from the merged districts feeling like "guests" in their own department. The provincial government must take urgent steps to address this crisis. Allocating proper office space and ensuring the availability of necessary resources is critical for the Directorate to effectively fulfill its mission. Without immediate action, the development of sports in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may suffer, undermining the province's potential to nurture talent and promote healthy lifestyles. It is high time for authorities to prioritize the needs of the Sports Directorate and focus on sustainable solutions to support the growth of sports in the region.#SportsDirectorateKP #OfficeSpaceCrisis #Mismanagement #SportsDevelopment #PublicAccountability #KPKSports #GovernmentTransparency #SportsPromotion

A new trend has taken place in Hayatabad Sports Complex where children of police persons have been found scaling down the cricket ground walls. This dangerous behavior is hazardous and vulnerable to risk considering the pathetic condition of those walls. The incident came to light when young cricketers, who were undergoing training at the academy, left the field and climbed the damaged wall to reach their homes, which are located near the police station. The ground's perimeter walls are already weakened, and the fencing installed is old and subpar, a consequence of poor construction practices by the contractor.Despite the administration's attempts to limit access to the ground, the police officers' children still opt for climbing the wall to reach their destination rather than using the main gate, which might be inconvenient. This level of disregard for safety may lead to major accidents as the walls are crumbling and likely to collapse.Urgent measures are needed to address this issue and ensure the safety of all people using the cricket ground. The authorities must take immediate steps to repair the damaged walls, strengthen security measures, and close any unauthorized access points. By prioritizing safety and implementing strict regulations, the risk of accidents can be mitigated and a secure environment can be created for all.#UnsafePlay #CricketGroundSafety #PeshawarSports #ChildSafety #InfrastructureSafety
Employees of the Hayatabad Sports Complex have boycotted their duty during a recent horse and cattle show in the Karnal Sher Khan Army Stadium, over being treated unfairly in receiving wages. The workers claim that they used to do the same amount of work as their counterparts working at the Peshawar Sports Complex, whom they say worked from morning till night. However, they claim that they have been discriminated against with regard to compensation.Where the Peshawar Sports Complex workers were paid a reasonable amount, they claim that they were given a paltry sum of Rs. 2500.The employees argue that this disparity is unjust and demoralizing. They have demanded an immediate investigation into the matter and called for fair compensation. The workers have urged the provincial sports directorate to ensure transparency and prevent such incidents of discrimination in the future.#FairPay #EmployeeRights #SportsComplexJustice #LaborRights #PayDisparity

A shocking revelation has come to light regarding the cricket academy at Hayatabad Sports Complex. Young players, around 160 in number, are being charged a hefty Rs 3200 for each tracksuit, a move that has raised eyebrows and exposed the contradictory policies of the provincial sports directorate. It came out that the same tracksuit was being supplied at Rs 2000 from Maazullah Khan Cricket Academy, under the Peshawar Sports Complex. After that, allegations of some collusion and charging higher amounts, reached the ears of the Director-General of Sports. After a cursory hearing on the subject, a complete ban was ordered on the tracksuit itself. But the controversy further deepens. Even though Hayatabad is not allowing the sale of this particular tracksuit, the same is selling at Hayatabad itself for Rs 3200. Investigations in the market reveal the production cost of the very same tracksuit to be just Rs 1800, which reflects a highly disproportionate markup being levied on young players. This is a very alarming scenario, not only because it entails a huge financial burden for the parents of these up-and-coming cricketers but also because the government's professed policy on sports development is being badly belied. The affair calls for an in-depth investigation into the alleged cases of corruption and mismanagement at the Hayatabad Cricket Academy. Transparency in sports, especially for talented young athletes who aspire to represent their country, needs to be ensured.#CricketAcademyScandal #SportsCorruption #UnfairCharges #Accountability #Transparency
Several football coaches in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced flak for allegedly demanding Rs 4.5 lakh per player from parents with the promise of international tours to Qatar and other countries. The actions have alerted the parents who have termed the coaches as exploiters who are using their children's aspirations to play abroad to earn money.Concerned parents have approached the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Football Association and the Olympic Association for help. The international tours were reportedly pitched as a great opportunity for young players by the coaches, but excessive charges have left a deep financial burden on many families. Parents are complaining about the fact that while they encourage their children to pursue positive activities such as football, the financial demands by the coaches are making it difficult for them to sustain their children's passion for football. In response, parents are asking the provincial sports authorities to come up with strict policies that will prevent such events in the future.Instead of spending on costly international tours, they should arrange local and national-level competitions where players can be picked according to merit. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Minister and DG Sports have been called upon to take swift action in ending the alleged fraud and promoting authentic, fair sports competitions.#FootballScam #YouthExploitation #KPFootballCrisis #SportsIntegrity #ProtectYoungAthletes

Peshawar: Syed Zahir Shah, President, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hockey Association, said with unequivocal emphasis that nobody is above the law, and his association has taken the constitution quite seriously. PHF and KP Hockey Association are constitutionally tied up with the Asian Hockey Federation and International Hockey Federation.Speaking to journalists in Peshawar, Syed Zahir Shah expressed regret over the atmosphere of chaos created by certain elements that sought to create parallel associations at the provincial and district level. He said those attempts had now failed, and the Pakistan Hockey Federation has asked all of its associations to take strict action against those who indulged in those parallel groups and hoped to be able to solve this issue once for all.He further grieved over the humiliation being caused by having two hockey federations in the country and explained that these people filed legal cases in Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar High Courts, which were all dismissed. The Pakistan Hockey Federation has already suspended four people, while other provinces, including Punjab, have been ordered to do the same.Syed Zahir Shah said that these groups have caused immense damage to hockey by splitting the districts and chaos, but he said hockey is now picking its pace back and decisive action must be taken. He directed all districts to give the names of those involved so that the KP Hockey Association could go about necessary measures. On the issue of amnesty, he said that this is a procedure which the law attends to and which he also had to go through when he was suspended.#KPHockeyAssociation #PakistanHockey #HockeyGovernance #SyedZahirShah #SportsJournalism #HockeyConstitution #KPKSports
