Hi everyone and welcome back to Rupture Radio! This week we're reading Dot Com-monism by Cian McGrath. In this piece, Cian McGrath looks at the changing relationship between the left and the internet. The left has utilised the internet to develop consciousnesses, organise protests and effect change. This piece argues however that we need a deeper analysis and asks what an ecosocialist internet would look like? As we all celebrate the new year, and make resolutions to break, we thought it would be a good opportunity to revisit the topic of burnout, including ideas for how to avoid it in the year ahead. Following a new intro from Cian, meandering through new years day thoughts, we are re-run a previous interview with sociologist Laurence Cox to discuss the bane of every activist's existence - burnout. The pair outline where burnout stems from, the ways in which it changes how we organise, and what steps we can take on a personal and organisational level to go about countering and preventing it.  Read some rupture authors' new years resolutions here: https://rupture.ie/articles/new-years-resolutions-for-the-tireless-socialist Read Lawrence Cox's paper on burnout here: https://mural.maynoothuniversity.ie/2201/ Check out his previous interview in Rupture issue 6 here: https://rupture.ie/articles/learn-from-each-others-struggles-an-interview-with-laurence-cox and part two in issue 7 here: https://rupture.ie/articles/learn-from-each-others-struggles --- Rupture Radio is a weekly podcast looking at news, politics and culture from a socialist perspective. In this episode we feature a reading of the article "Should we ally with 'green capitalists'? No'" by RISE member Diana O' Dwyer in which she explores the current climate crisis and the dilemma faced by socialists over whether or not to support reforms driven by capitalists in the fight against climate change, or is this a short sighted strategy that compromises long term goals for short term gains? This article argues against such allyship, focusing on capitalisms inherent inability to deal with the climate crisis. Instead we should be fighting for an alternate, eco-socialist strategy built on uniting the transformative power of the global working class and the importance of uniting various movements for environmental, economic and social justice change. ----- The article can be read in full here You can Read John Barry's counter-arguement 'Maybe' here This article originally appeared in issue 3 of Rupture which can be purchased here ----- Rupture Issue 10 out - The theme of the issue is AN IRELAND FOR ALL and features articles on the causes of the rise of a far-right in Ireland, lessons from Sweden, Germany and the Rock Against Racism movement of the 80s and more .
