This episode was a treat as I got to interview the big winner of the summer, Mya Holderly. She recently won the Grand Champion Crossbred Gilt at the Exposition in Indianapolis AND the National Junior Summer Spectacular in Louisville. For those not involved with pigs, this is a really big deal and extremely hard to do. We’re talking beating out thousands of pigs! Mya is on the Danner Livestock team and had some fun facts to share.
Kamlynn Mason of Montgomery, Texas, has had one of the best spring show seasons of all time. She had Reserve Grand Champion hog at Denver, Reserve at Houston, Grand Champion at San Angelo and Forth Worth. It’s incredible! So, I wanted to talk with Kamlynn about her recent hot streak and how she consistently does what she does.
The Oklahoma Youth Expo is an event like I’ve never seen! I went a few years ago to watch. Let alone is their grand drive the coolest thing ever, bringing kids in the arena with a limo, but the event itself is huge! OYE is the world’s largest Junior Livestock Show with more than 7,000 4-H and FFA members and more than 13,000 head of cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and ag mechanics projects. It’s amazing to see all of the livestock shown by exhibitors just from Oklahoma. The show is so tough, so getting in the top in a big deal. That’s why I wanted to bring on the Grand Champion Barrow winner of this year’s OYE, Wade Richey, to learn what it takes and his tips to being the best.
We’re in the midst of spring which means it’s Texas Major time. I love hearing about who’s winning what and how high the auctions go with these shows. And when talking about the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, this year has been nothing short of exciting. I was lucky enough to have winner of the Grand Champion Steer from Houston, Blaize Benson, join me on this episode. Blaize won with his Simmental steer named Woozy. So, join me as learn more about Blaize’s showing career and his crazy ride with his Simmental.
Records were broken this year at the 2024 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior shows. I was excited when Shepard Silvers, who won the Grand Champion Lamb, agreed to talk with me. His lamb at the auction brought a record-setting price of $500,000! Shepard told me more about that lamb and more about him
There’s been a name continuously winning in the show ring. And the cool part, he’s actually from my home state of Iowa. Mason Shalla has been unstoppable recently. Last year, he won the steer show at the Iowa State Fair and recently got reserve at the National Western Stock Show in Denver! Learn more in this episode about his winning career is how it's just part of the family business.
The Arizona National Livestock Show is the largest livestock show in the Southwest and has been in existence since 1948. Exhibitors from more than 39 states come to show, bringing in over 4,000 head of cattle, sheep, goats, swine and horses. Today I get the pleasure to talk with the Grand Champion Barrow winner from the recent Arizona National Livestock Show, Alli Stromberger. She's no stranger to winning national banners. Hear from Alli about her career and her champion barrow.
Happy 2024! To start off season #2 of The Joe Show, I wanted to bring on one of my showring friends, Megan Mauss. She’s a heck of a competitor and has done quite of bit winning recently. Today we’re not only chatting about her showing career, but also highlighting a benefit for her dad, Dan Mauss on January 27th. Welcome to the final part in my State Fair Series. We’re ending this last episode with a bang with two really cool people. To start off, I’ve got Tyler Patterson who won the Grand Champion Steer at the Indiana State Fair and to end, Jami Hoblyn, who double holed it in the swine ring at the Nebraska State Fair.
We had great success with part one that featured two state winners from West Virginia and North Dakota. For this one I thought we’d keep it within the same state to hear from two different species winners. On today’s episode, I interview Alivia Ritzler who had the Champion Purebred Gilt and Holden LeVan who had the Champion Market Beef at the Ohio State Fair.
Welcome to a special edition of The Joe Show called the State Fair Series. First up in part 1 is with Macy Norton from North Dakota. She had the Champion Breeding Gilt at the North Dakota State Fair and then we’ll wrap up with Montgomery Bertram who had the Champion Market Animal at the West Virginia State Fair. So grab a corndog and here we go!
I had the pleasure to chat with a couple of buddies of mine from Oklahoma. Fletcher and Dax Inman are two brothers that are following in their parents footsteps in terms of making a name for themselves in the show pig industry. We dug a little into their the Holy Smoke sale and even more importantly, turtle racing. These guys are so fun and I look forward to seeing them soon.
When I was watching our Iowa State Fair cattle show, I was intrigued by the judge. I soon realized that judge has two daughters who have made a name for themselves as well. Karlee and Kinlee Rathmann of Texas work very hard for every banner they have. I sat down with them to talk about their secrets to success.
On today’s show, I interviewed a sibling trio that is known in the show pig and cattle world. Breckyn, Brenhem and Berwick Bloomberg talked with me about their family and where their show travels have taken them so far. These guys are the real deal, bringing home banners about everywhere they go and they still have a huge career of showing ahead of them.
I was able to sit down with three sisters from Oklahoma who happened to be driving through Iowa on the way to a show. They have a unique history with cattle and ranching. Cierra, Claire and Cricket Collins will be 5th generation to operate and raise cattle in their family-owned business. The entire Collins family loves what they do; the cattle, the land and the competition to raise the best.
My guests on today’s show are two brothers from Iowa, Jackson and Charlie Schulte. Many might know the Schulte boys from their big wins on the national dairy cattle scene, but I know them best from playing basketball together and through 4H. On this episode, Jackson and Charlie share about their showing experience and insights into the dairy industry. Check them out on tiktok @schultebrosdairy.
At the 2023 Exposition in Des Moines, Amanda Miklaszewski from Wisconsin showed the Champion Crossbred Gilt and Bradshaw Bunt from Oklahoma showed the Champion Crossbred Barrow. They both sat down with me after Expo to talk about their big wins.
On this episode of The Joe Show, you'll be able to hear from Will Taylor and Dillon Sheiss. Will is the Iowa State University Livestock Judging Team coach and Dillon is a member of the team. We had a lot of fun talking about contests, the judging team and the upcoming ISU Judging Camp that everyone needs to get registered for. Here is that link: https://go.iastate.edu/RKJEBC
Our guest on today’s show is Hayden Schroeder. If you haven’t heard of Hayden Schroeder, you’ve been living under a rock. Hayden has won pretty much every lamb and goat Texas major and show across the country he could show at. On today’s podcast, we’ll talk about his show career and what sets him a part from the pack.
Thirteen-year-old, Brayden Bowers of Wisconsin is very connected in the show pig and show lamb industry. Learn more about Brayden, how he balances both species on a winning level and even an insight into his mom's cooking :).
