Description
When the choice seems to be to tear down the church or build a wall around it, we aim to walk the narrow road of nuance through the wilderness between the warring factions and try to figure out what it means to love God and people well.

Most of us have had moments where we feel God’s leading, but it often looks different for each of us. Some argue that they can hear God audibly while others maybe feel a gentle nudge from the spirit. Is it possible some are so in tune with God that they hear his leading easily while others need to be grabbed by the shoulders and shouted at?
On this episode we talk through many difficult questions. Does God still speak to us? Have certain gifts ceased? Just because God can do something, does it mean He will? While we don’t necessarily arrive at the answer, we definitely have some great food for thought and ultimately end up in what we think is a pretty good place to land.
Two dudes reflect on a year of life and podcasting. Did we learn anything? And if so, do we remember it?
Mercy. It shouldn't be so difficult. Especially when we have experienced the Mercy of God. But as we have explored in other conversations... it just isn't always that simple.
In this episode we continue discussing the Beatitudes. We specifically dive into Matthew 5:7, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy." It's pretty clearly stated, yet we still fill that we are more likely to benefit from being merciless. Go figure.
We get it… sex sells and you can definitely say things a certain way to get people listening. BUT, does that mean it is the right, or even wise, thing to do?
In this episode we discuss a recent article we came across from Kevin McNeese of New Release Today. The article, titled “What The Bleep Is Happening To Christian Music?,” addresses many interesting changes in “Christian” music as of late. We discuss these and how it relates to art by people of faith in general. As always, these conversations carry some tension. While we can see both sides of the issue, we attempt to get to the most important perspective… the way God sees it.
What does it mean to listen to the voice of God in a world full of noise? How can we know what we're supposed to be doing if we're not hearing the One who's leading us?
In this episode we talk about the fact that Sabbath is less about a day of the week and more about living life in rhythm with God.
When one hears "Blessed are the Meek," they likely have something come to mind. But what does it really mean? Have we made it something it's not?
In this episode we continue discussing the Casualty of The Beatitudes. This time we explore how our culture has decided that the powerful are more worthy of a blessing than the meek.
The Beatitudes are a pretty clear example of the people that God blesses and even what that blessing equates to. BUT... for whatever reason, it seems those same characteristics aren't appreciated or respected on Earth. So... what do we do with that? Unfortunately, we have (quietly of course) changed how these appear in our life to fit the worldly definition of success.
In the first episode of this series, we discuss the first of the Beatitudes that doesn't quite jive with the current way of thinking and why the Rich in Ego are surely more blessed than the Poor in Spirit.
For theirs is the kingdom of the world.
Sometimes we start talking and don't quite know where we will end up. Fortunately, this time it is well worth the journey. We start in Deuteronomy and somehow end up in Matthew, but... we hit along some interesting thoughts on the way.
This episode serves as an intro or on ramp to a new series around the Beatitudes, but it's not what you think. Give it a listen and stay tuned for what's next.
There is so much much going on in this world right now. Christians have been put in the spotlight in many ways, though not always good. Unfortunately... instead of that being something to point people to truth, it has only further contributed to the idea that each person can have their own version of the truth.
In this episode we talk community, heretics, and the pursuit of happiness. You know, just normal lighthearted conversation.
We know you'll be shocked, but we're talking about the middle ground again.
In this conversation, we talk about our tendency (in America, anyway) to look towards political policies, leaders, and parties to solve the problem of the human condition. Trouble is, they can't - and we forget that to the detriment of our ability to be salt and light.
What we need vs. what we want is almost always different. We often try to substitute a desire for inspiration with the necessary, yet uncomfortable, need for instruction. This is especially evident when it comes to the church.
In this episode we attempt to discuss these things in truth and with grace. We talk about spiritual growth, the seeker friendly trend, nominal Christianity, and many other things that are at play here.
Things aren't always what they seem. We live in a world where many parse out the different part of their lives depending on how they want to be seen. And in some cases, we just do things because it seems like that is how they should be done. Not confusing at all right?
We know how we should live in view of God's mercy and grace. That said, we often look more like whitewashed tombs than temples of the living God. In this episode we talk ethics, compassion, and loving those around us.
Welcome to Season 3 of unBetween!
You've probably heard that you should put God first in your life. But what if He doesn't want to be first? What if He wants to be more than that?
We talk about priorities, community, perspective, and a lot more in this first episode of 2023.
As we wrap up 2022, we reflect on the past year of life, podcasting, and uncertainty. It has been a busy year and many things have happened. Our discussion covers things like our failed attempts to plan out our lives, the importance of community, seeking clarity over comfort, and many other things.
We are excited about what is to come for the unBetween podcast over the next year as we seek to have even more conversations around loving God and people well in this tension we occupy.
Jason Truby is back to continue our conversation about his experiences as a musician and a Christian, but a lot of our time is spent reflecting on the nature of our lives as people of faith, and how, at the end of the day, the only question that really matters is "Do you know Him?"
Jason Truby has worn a lot of musical hats over the years - from metal, to hard rock, to acoustic, to fingerstyle, and a few other stops along the way. He was a founding member of Living Sacrifice and lead guitarist for P.O.D., but the uniting factor in all of his endeavors is the desire to create honest art that reflects the greatness of God, the original Artist.

The second part of our conversations with our favorite art punk prophet. Josh Porter has a new book out, and he was gracious enough to return to the mic to talk with us about it!
Death to Deconstruction - Faithfulness As An Act of Rebellion chronicles Josh's pilgrimage through his own deconstruction of his faith and religion, and explains the reasons he chose to remain a Christian - and why you should, too.
You can order the new book, read the synopsis, and check out the other projects that Josh has going on at joshuasporter.com

Jason is down-to-earth, personable, and humble, but also deeply reflective and insightful, so we were smiling laughing, and deeply moved during this conversation - often all at the same time!

In a world where there are so many things we are told we need or should do, what are we really pursuing?
In this episode we talk through the pursuit of comfort and convenience over the pursuit of God and the misconception that as followers of Christ, life should be smooth and free of trouble.
"Celebrate yourself!" is a refrain that can seemingly be heard shouted from every cultural street corner these days, regardless of whether you're on standing the left or the right side of the tracks.
In this episode, we talk about the deep-seated pull to selfishness both inside the church and outside, and how Christ calls us to live a different way.
