[막9:14-29, 우리말성경]

14 그들이 다른 제자들에게 돌아와 보니 그 제자들이 많은 사람들에게 둘러싸여 율법학자들과 논쟁을 벌이고 있었습니다./And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.

15 사람들은 모두 예수를 보자마자 몹시 놀라며 달려와 맞이했습니다./And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him.

16 예수께서 물으셨습니다. "무슨 일로 이렇게 논쟁하고 있느냐?"/And he asked them, "What are you arguing about with them?"

17 무리 가운데 한 사람이 대답했습니다. "선생님, 제가 아들을 데려왔습니다. 그 아이는 말 못하게 하는 더러운 귀신이 들려 있습니다./And someone from the crowd answered him, "Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute.

18 귀신이 한번 아이를 사로잡으면 아이가 땅에 거꾸러집니다. 그러면 아이는 입에 거품을 물고 이를 갈면서 몸이 뻣뻣하게 굳습니다. 그래서 선생님의 제자들에게 귀신을 쫓아내 달라고 부탁했지만 쫓아내지 못했습니다."/And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able."

19 예수께서 말씀하셨습니다. "이 믿음 없는 세대야! 내가 언제까지 너희와 함께 있어야 하겠느냐? 내가 언제까지 너희에게 참아야 하겠느냐? 아이를 데려오라."/And he answered them, "O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me."

20 그러자 그들이 아이를 예수께 데려왔습니다. 더러운 귀신은 예수를 보더니 곧 아이의 몸에 경련을 일으켰습니다. 아이는 땅에 거꾸러지더니 입에 거품을 물고 뒹굴었습니다./And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.

21 예수께서 아이의 아버지에게 물으셨습니다. "이 아이가 언제부터 이렇게 됐느냐?" 그가 대답했습니다. "아주 어릴 때부터입니다./And Jesus asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood.

22 귀신이 아이를 죽이려고 여러 번 불 속에 내던지고 물속에도 빠뜨렸습니다. 그러나 선생님께서 어떻게든 하실 수 있다면 제발 우리를 불쌍히 여기시고 도와주십시오."/And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us."

23 예수께서 말씀하셨습니다. "'하실 수 있다면'이 무슨 말이냐? 믿는 사람에게는 모든 일이 가능하다."/And Jesus said to him, "'If you can'! All things are possible for one who believes."

24 그러자 곧 아이의 아버지가 소리쳤습니다. "내가 믿습니다! 믿음이 부족한 나를 도와주십시오!"/Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!"

25 많은 사람들이 이 광경을 보려고 달려오는 것을 보시고 예수께서 귀신을 꾸짖으셨습니다. "듣지 못하게 하고 말 못하게 하는 귀신아, 내가 네게 명령한다! 이 아이에게서 나와 다시는 들어가지 마라!"/And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again."

26 더러운 귀신은 소리 지르며 아이에게 심한 경련을 일으키더니 나갔습니다. 아이가 죽은 것같이 돼 누워 있자 많은 사람들이 수군거렸습니다. "아이가 죽었나 보다."/And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, "He is dead."

27 그때 예수께서 아이의 손을 잡아 일으키셨습니다. 그러자 아이가 벌떡 일어섰습니다./But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

28 예수께서 집 안으로 들어가신 후에 제자들이 따로 물어보았습니다. "어째서 저희는 귀신을 쫓아내지 못했습니까?"/And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?"

29 예수께서 대답하셨습니다. "이런 귀신은 오직 기도로만 쫓아낼 수 있다."/And he said to them, "This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer."
