Наткну́лась я на днях на одно́ фо́то в интерне́те, и не смогла́ удержа́ться, что́бы не сде́лать о нём подка́ст…

Recently I came across one photo on the Internet, and I could not help making a podcast about it …

Де́ло в том, что в Росси́и сейча́с, в предверии приближа́ющихся вы́боров в госду́му, активи́руются рекла́мные кампа́нии от разли́чных па́ртий. Мы абстраги́руемся от сами́х па́ртий, не о них речь, а воздади́м до́лжное изобрета́тельности их маркето́логов. Вот он, тот плака́т, что пробуди́л у меня́ жела́ния им с ва́ми подели́ться:

The thing is that at the moment in Russia, on the eve of the upcoming elections to the State Duma, advertising campaigns from various parties are becoming more and more active. We abstract from the parties themselves, it’s not about them, but we will pay tribute to the ingenuity of their marketers. Here it is, the poster that made me want to share it with you:

Ита́к, что мы ви́дим? Изображе́ние пенько́в, где, очеви́дно, бы́ли ра́ньше дере́вья. И на́дпись: они́ пили́ли, а мы бу́дем сажа́ть!

So what do we see? An image of stumps where were obviously trees before. And the inscription: they sawed, and we will plant!

Вро́де бы, всё поня́тно. Каки́е-то нехоро́шие лю́ди пили́ли-пили́ли дере́вья, всё спили́ли, а мы тепе́рь бу́дем за́ново э́ти дере́вья сажа́ть.

So, everything seems to be clear. Some bad people were sawing trees non-stop, cut everything down, and now we will plant these trees again.

Так? Ну… иностра́нцу без зна́ния ру́сского сле́нга, возмо́жно, и́менно так и пока́жется, да и ускользнёт от него́ остроу́мная игра́ слов на э́том плака́те.

Is that so? Well … it may seem that way to a foreigner without knowledge of Russian slang, and the witty wordplay on this poster will elude him.

А де́ло в том, что есть в ру́сском тако́е выраже́ние, как пили́ть бюдже́т. Э́то когда́ госуда́рство выделя́ет де́ньги на како́й-нибу́дь прое́кт (наприме́р, строи́тельство доро́г в определённой ме́стности), но как во́дится, на опла́ту со́бственно прое́кта остаётся то́лько ма́ленькая часть бюдже́та, а всё остально́е незако́нно оседа́ет в карма́нах коррумпи́рованных уча́стников проце́сса. Мы в таки́х слу́чаях говори́м, что бюдже́т распи́лен – как бревно́, на не́сколько часте́й.

The reality is that there is such an expression in Russian as how to saw a budget. It is when the state allocates money for a project (for example, building roads in a certain area), but as usual, only a small part of the budget remains to pay for the project itself, and everything else is illegally deposited in the pockets of corrupt participants of the process. In such cases, we say that the budget is sawn – like a log – into several parts.

В то же вре́мя сло́во сажа́ть отно́сится в э́том слу́чае совсе́м не к дере́вьям, а к лю́дям. И сажа́ть их собира́ются не ина́че, как в тюрьму́.

At the same time, the word сажать in this case does not refer to trees at all, but to people. And сажать means to put them in prison.

Таки́м о́бразом, плака́т сле́дует чита́ть так: они́ занима́лись тем, что пили́ли бюдже́ты, пришло́ вре́мя нам их посади́ть в тюрьму́.

Thus, the poster should be read like this: they were sawing budgets, now it time for us to put them in jail.

Вот тако́й двойно́й смысл в одно́м плака́те.
