Yes, our racist president is alarming, but let's not pretend "we've never been here before." Wilson showed Birth of a Nation in the White House and the audience cheered as white-hooded figures swept away the black "villains." Presidents certainly have held up citizens of color as "objects of hate" and as "threats to the democracy." Don't want to downplay the current situation, but it seems worse to underplay the long history or racism.
