YouTube launches short video-sharing app
A turning point in the short video market came in 2017, when Musical.ly was acquired by Chinese company ByteDance and merged with TikTok. The new entity went on to become an obsession among the youth worldwide with more than 800 million users. In the last few months, however, Tiktok has been facing the heat in many countries, leading to its ban in some countries and impending action in the US.
