Although trained as an architect, Fernand Léger went on to become one of the most visionary painters of his time. His Untitled (Fireplace Mural) which was created for the Fifth Avenue home of the late Nelson Rockefeller is an elegant example of Léger’s take on Cubism and Surrealism.
Untitled (Fireplace Mural) by Fernand Léger is on view in the new Nancy and Rich Kinder Building for modern and contemporary art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Although trained as an architect, once Léger moved to Paris, he became associated with some of the most forward-looking painters of the time, eventually developing his own form of late Cubism so elegantly seen in this mural. Discover how his works came to be displayed alongside those of Matisse and Picasso with Gary Tinterow, Director and Margaret Alkek Williams Chair of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
