Pronunciation check 正音: Restaurant

sounds like  [Res-tront] 不是 [res-tuh-rangt]

I would like to make a reservation 預約, please. 

Do you have a reservation?

If someone doesn’t have a reservation, then they are walk-ins.

Walk-ins: 

• 字面上是「走進來」，可是在這裡是名詞，它指的是直接走進來的人也就是沒有事先預約的人. 

如果您沒有預約，值得詢問：

• Do you accept walk-ins?


• Do you take walk-ins?


• Could I walk-in?

At the restaurant:

• Do you have a reservation? Yes/No


• Inside or outside?


• Patio is a fancy word for outside seating.


• I’d like to sit outside, please. 

Pay attention: patio vs ratio, very similar spellings, but very different sounds!

When you’re ready to order, you can use these lines:

• Please, may I have ___


• I would like ______, please

More casual ways to order: 

• I’ll have ____, please. 


• Sometimes in the US, people say, “I’ll do_______”


• Make that two/three/four/etc.

Listen carefully because towards the end, I share something about ordering water at restaurants

• Just water for now, please.


• "be my guest" 是口語，意思是“隨便你”
