👥 econVue Panel - Jackson Hole Part 2 – The Fed Decision ⟲ Sep 18, 2024
Update: 2024-10-05
Description
Following our Jackson Hole panel at the end of August, on September 18th, econVue hosted a panel immediately after the September FMOC meeting. We were joined by members of the Chicago Financial Forum to discuss the Fed decision. Our panelists include Chicago economists and econVue contributors Karim Pakravan, Michael Lewis, and Gordon Parrish.
The panel focused on the recent 50 basis points cut by the Fed, questioning its rationale and potential impact on markets and the economy. We discussed the factors contributing to inflation and its subsequent decline, with a focus the role of fiscal stimulus, the sudden shift between 25 and 50 bps in the weekend leading up to the decision, and the impact of interest rates on the labor market. Lastly, the group discussed the government's ability to finance budget deficits and debt, with suggestions on how the Treasury could influence bond yields and support the housing market.
