Arif Nawaz, Greater Manchester Police
Thesis project: Tracking procedural justice in stop and search encounters.
Arif Nawaz is the head of Organisational Learning and Workforce Development Branch for GMP. As a part of this role he is currently leading on preparing the force for the implementation of wide ranging workforce transformation reforms. This includes delivering the Police Educational Qualification Framework across all ranks. A critically important element of his work in this role is to help GMP deliver the operational imperative of becoming more reflective and inclusive of the communities it serves. His team are delivering innovative approaches that are improving the retention and progression of black and Asian minority ethnic officers and female officers as the force continues to make huge strides in attracting people from those communities.
Improving police legitimacy is a passion of Arif’s and directed him towards his study of tracking procedural justice in stop and search encounters on the streets of Greater Manchester.
Arif has a wide range of operational experience predominately across all areas at the City of Manchester Divisions, including strategic lead for the city centre.
He has specialised in public order command having commanded a variety of protests, sporting fixtures and large scale community events.
Arif holds an LL.B (Hons) from Manchester Metropolitan University and an M.Sc. in Police Leadership and Management from the University of Warwick.
Jan Larsen, Danish Police
Thesis project: Tracking Self-Legitimacy Among Danish Police Recruits: A Panel Survey
Inspector Jan Kenneth Larsen has been in the Danish Police Force since 1991. He is currently an Instructor at the Danish Police College.
He has a diploma degree in Youth and Adult Learning Processes from UCC, Copenhagen, Denmark and will shortly graduate from the University of Cambridge with an M.St. in Applied Criminology and Police Management.
Peter Blichfeldt, Danish Police
Thesis title: Tracking Police Recruit Attitudes from Start to Finish of the Three-Year Police Training Program in Denmark: Varieties of Reactions to Becoming a Police Officer
Peter is a Superintendent at the Danish Police Academy. He started in the Danish Police Service as a recruit in 2006 and has worked with the training of police recruits since 2011; both in the districts and at the Police Academy. Peter has a Diploma in “Communication, Supervision & Management” and will shortly graduate a Masters degree in Applied Criminology & Police Management from the University of Cambridge.
