#043 Know Your Limits [Leadership Success Podcast]
Description
In the 2011 film Limitless (Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro), Eddie Morra (Cooper) appears to be a loser. He’s a writer without a day job who makes a lot of excuses. His life and apartment are a disaster, he’s divorced and his girlfriend has left him.
He’s all but given up when he runs into his ex-brother-in-law Vernon, who gives him a little pill. This thing is pure magic. He can use 100% of his brain and body and seems unstoppable.
As an ambitious guy, it’s hard for me to watch this movie without wanting the effects of that little pill.
Real Life
Unfortunately (and, after watching the whole movie, fortunately), real life isn’t this simple. As humans and leaders, we have to know our limits. It’s important to understand our limits within two contexts:
- Personal: how much we can handle as individuals
- With respect to others: what we choose to do vs. the opportunities we give to those around us
Why It Matters
Take a listen to hear about these four reasons in more detail, but in summary, knowing our limits:
- Helps us establish priorities and be more effective
- Generates better results
- Allows us to raise up other leaders
- Keeps us sane, healthy and happy
