1 Samuel 6 The Ark Returns: God’s Holiness Revealed Pastor Chidi Okorie Episode 1340 - SendMe Radio
Update: 2025-09-13
Description
In 1 Samuel 6, we see the dramatic return of the Ark of the Covenant after it had brought plagues upon the Philistines. Recognizing that they could no longer keep it, the Philistine leaders sought to send the Ark back to Israel with a guilt offering of gold. They placed it on a new cart pulled by two cows, and without being led, the cows walked directly to Beth Shemesh — a sign that it was truly the God of Israel who had afflicted them.
The people of Beth Shemesh rejoiced at the return of the Ark and offered sacrifices to the Lord. Yet the chapter closes with a sober warning: some men looked into the Ark and were struck down because they treated God’s holy presence with irreverence. Out of fear, the people cried out, asking, “Who can stand in the presence of the Lord, this holy God?” and arranged for the Ark to be taken to Kiriath Jearim.
1 Samuel 6 reminds us:
•God cannot be mocked or treated lightly.
•His holiness demands reverence and obedience.
•Even in judgment, He shows mercy by restoring His presence to His people.
