1.11: We Built This City Part One, On Rock and Roll
Update: 2023-12-14
Description
In 2011, Rolling Stone called Starship's "We Built this City" the worst song of 1980s. Blender and GQ labeled it the worst song of all time. this highly commercial chart-topping hit for a group with its roots in late 1960s counter-culture may be the most complex and bizarre pop song of the 80's if not the history of all pop music. Starship or rather the band it grew out of did, in many ways, build this city on rock and roll, but most of the people responsible for the building of said city had left or been kicked out of the band by the time they made that claim. In fact, it may be that the very removal of those artists actually allowed Starship to chart their first number 1 single since the core of the band was formed in 1965.
