12 Facets of Coaching - How to evaluate your coach in practice and games
Description
How do you evaluate coaches & programs?
Here are 12 facets of coaching that I use to evaluate the quality of a coach
In practice
- Talk time vs action time during practice
- Players standing in line/ waiting on sideline - Use of baskets and basketballs
- Coaching consistency across staff
- Game relevance of drills - does it look like actual basketball?
- Preparation - outline, list, practice plan of some kind!
- Punctuality - start and end practice on time
In Games
- Empowering vs inhibiting players
- Substitution consistency - equal, to win, or or on a whim?
- Preparation - know opponent, biggest threats, watched film
- Warm up - working on something vs coasting through layups
- Emotionally stable - excited and frustrated without punishing players
- Long term vs Short term - High expectations - only when players know and have committed to working on something
