oh man Joe is sooo wrong about his privilege argument. Yes white privilege is a thing whether or not all racism is eradicated today. white people have systemically been at an advantage since before the US was even a country and unfortunately a lot of minorities still have a harder time than white people born into similar circumstances. not to mention police brutality rates are disproportionate towards minorities as well. as for Haidt he's right that some people use calling people out for prestige but honestly being a person who just graduated from Berkeley, most of those people have their head I the right place and are doing it for progress more than anything else. the way they do it might not be the best way to go about it but I really think he's overgeneralizing both the teachers and students. I mean he keeps saying "grievance studies". that's not a thing no matter how much people want to believe it is. the really hardcore professors that teach like that are outliers and while they deserve to be called out I really think he's overstating the problem. Shit I majored in Peace and Conflict Studies and it was all about conflict resolution not "these people are terrible because they don't agree with me."

Drew Barnes The good old, man up and deal with your shit, if I can do it so can you argument. How reductionist. Maybe he can, maybe he can't. There is no shame getting a helping hand but regardless he needs to make the decision to change. With or without help

Drew Barnes @Drew Barnes You presume your own level of will upon the world that way. Not everybody developed early life coping skills and mental mechanisms, there's 20 different things that can effect people's ability to self regulate. Clearly if everyone was like you want them to be, the way it is wouldn't exist. Everyone is in different stages of personal growth or regression. Some people simply need steps to order what has been chaos up till now. A schematic, an understanding of the mind's traps...etc. If you're self aware, motivated and have the world stacked, then good for you. But don't ridicule the lost. It's bad form.
