Great episode! Although I agree Adderall is wildly over prescribed, there is a population, roughly 2-3% of the world's population, who greatly benefits from this medication. True and genuine ADD and ADHD, when diagnosed properly, is characterized by having a deficit of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Adderall increases available dopamine levels in the brain which helps some of us live a normal life. The abuse is obvious and it's wildly over prescribed but let's not stigmatize the small percentage of people who actually need it. love your show Joe!

He doesn't understand how EXPENSIVE "free college" is!!! What does he mean, "earn it?" He has earned WAY TOO MUCH MONEY to understand what happens to people when they are given "free" things......

As someone who is on prescribed speed. . .All of the traits you list of for speed freaks are just problematic concentrations of personal traits highly valued by the economy. Donny Trumpet is living proof that the economy rewards megalomania. Isn't it conceivable that some in the population lack the associated attributes to the degree that being "more of a megalomaniac" is a positive improvement for them? And that maybe we should keep it away from folks like Trump? Or maybe institute a UBI so folks who have problems focusing can work on themselves instead of being sent to the employment line with a gun to their head? But you are totally right to bring up the lifestyle changes ( at the pit of depression I couldnt make myself work out, once I was taking speed I was bike riding every day. It didnt require a high dose, just enough to get me on top of my despair and distractions ) but when someone goes into the the doctor ready to off themselves because they feel so incompatible with reality its cheaper to toss them some pills than to help them rebuild themselves. I agreed to take the speed because I planned on coupling it with counseling and working hard on lifestyle changes. Then I found out afterword my insurance would cover the pills but not the counseling : / #AmericanPriorities

Have Penn on way more often please! It seems like admorable education at an earlier level would focus a person to choose their life path after high school. Whereas we don't, college sustains structure for the mind to soak in knowledge from so many facets the tuition bill goes towards dropouts or a non related occupations after a degree.

Wouldn't call myself a Penn fan, but have enjoyed some of his work in the past. It did bother me the way he would completely dismiss altered states, but I respected his decision to stay sober. Glad to hear it seems like he mellowed out and is starting to reconsider parts of his ego. Very respectable. I'm always impressed by his character.

Penn needs to understand tuition does not include room and board. It doesn't. No politician is calling for publicly funded room and board. They are only calling for tuition being covered which currently is far too high. Also Penn has too much faith in the utopian fantasy of a free market.
