Joe, next time bring in someone that's grown up on the reservation! Talk about poverty and lack of jobs. How they're screwed over, even today.

I'm not saying that the feds didn't shaft the natives back then but it's puzzling how almost NO ONE ever discusses the atrocities committed between the various tribes. Also, they're always spoken of as one people- "the Indians". Not so....

I'm really mixed on her words. People all around the world indigenous or not need social work, but they need, and especially Natives, need plans to further their sovereignty to further their economic self sufficiency and regrow prairies, forests and wildlife to support older ways of living and find that symbiotic relationship to the earth. She didn't know that Beringia was a boreal landmass about the size of Australia, if she was given the absolute power to solve problems she wouldn't know what to do, she claims that developing a codex or index of compiled indigenous knowledge would be an affront to natives because it uses western perspectives yet she lauds the Smithsonian for doing the same. She is firm in lots of ideological components and various legal concerns, but as far as practical, historical, and environmental issues she gets hazy. In order to educate western people you have to recommend books like "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee", give us valuable tangible resources to be EDUCATED. Tourism is not a viable economic producer, it's a crutch. Right now casinos are closed. How is that helping? She is a start, but listen to a Native vet, get an Indigenous engineer, get a Native elder, a shaman or medicine man; I wanna know their perspective. When all is said and done, Much Love ✌️

It seemed very strange to me that she kept jumping to the conclusion that Joe was being sarcastic, insincere or talking down to her, when he's the one with the massive platform trying to be open minded and learn something. She shit on everything he said. Unfortunately it's pretty clear that she has predetermined offense in her own mind and therefore nothing will ever be a good thing to her. Her status as victim rules everything. Really unfortunate, because she had a chance to open eyes, change hearts and inspire allies but failed on so many levels.

this one is rough. I made it about 1.5 hours but she just doesn't answer any questions. Joe - direct question. Shannon - diverts to unrelated topic. this might be the first episode I've ever turned off.

". . . . . people that are trying to do that. Like the current administration. - well, what are they doing that's so terrible. lady- well, umm, ahhh, ummm, aaahh. here, let me bring something else". So she directly blamed Trump for something, then was asked what exactly his administration was doing, and she couldn't come up with an answer. Brought up something else. wow. sorry lady, as soon as you brought politics into this, as opposed to educating us about your cause, you lost me

I know Joe doesn't know much about sports, but when they say that sports teams don't have mascots for any other people. Celtics, Yankees, Fighting Irish, Vikings, Canucks, Canadiens, Rangers, Islanders, Padres, Mariners, Pirates, Royals... just off the top of my head.

two points here ..many native cultures believe that they came from underground and that this world is the third world on our journey home. also Joe was asking about a documentary of some sorts that tell the story. i would recommend "canes of power" its more Pueblo based history but does include history of planes back in Andrew Jackson and Lincoln times.

She wants to double down on others not having the facts when she's unaware that the glaciers she's so sure were on the land bridge were actually further east & the land bridge was open. Pollen and plant matter that have been recovered prove it was a lush environment. I mean, I'm on board with the truth that Natives were, and continue to be, fucked by "the white man"...but be able to recognize you're still learning.

Wow, you people really show the inhumane part of humanity. Funny how it’s so easy to bash on someone who’s trying to do something to show the injustice of murdering and stealing from a large race of people over hundreds and hundreds of years. She is trying to change the future for mankind, including her people... no one can have all the answers to cover and fix that length of trauma. Either all of you have never experienced anything that has made you a victim or outcast, or, you have and instead of learning empathy you lash out to cover up your own hurt and issues. Either way, you allowed should really find something better to do for the your own selves rather than putting someone else down who is trying their best. It seems really clear who is the uneducated and ignorant people speaking here are,not her... can You figure it out? You all should be ashamed cuz you’re all just bullies with no higher purpose.

500 + tribes...wow...and how many technological innovations did they create before the evil white man showed up? oh...stone age technology and very little writing. writing is what creates societies and cultures. Innovation wins! Preserve that culture, sure...but podcasting was not invented by a Native Tribe. #shockmonkeyradio
