Description

After touring the world with the Black Pumas, JaRon Marshall will release his new studio album, The Return of Slick, on October 10th via The Vault. This 12-track album is much more than a simple solo project: it's a vibrant tribute to his recently deceased father, an intimate narrative driven by a rare collective energy.

In recent years, JaRon had already sketched out his sound with the mixtape The Gold Tapes, Vol. 1-3 (2020) and earth sounds (2023), a live-to-tape album praised for its analog warmth and raw energy. These two projects established him as one of the rising stars of the modern soul and jazz scene and paved the way for a broader and more ambitious body of work.

With The Return of Slick, JaRon takes a significant step forward. He blends soul, jazz, R&B, and trip-hop to create a sound that is both sensual and powerful. The album explores themes of grief and legacy, while asserting a bold musical vision, without ever abandoning the groove that made him famous. It features prestigious guests: Dominique Fils-Aimé, Ric Wilson, Claudia Isaki, James Robinson, and Jermaine Holmes (Angelo and The Vanguard).

The first single, “Keep On Shining” featuring Dominique Fils-Aimé, is already available.

Originally from Loreauville, Louisiana, JaRon Marshall began playing piano at age 11 in his local church, where he honed his sense of groove and raw emotion. After studying at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, he moved to Austin, where he quickly became a prominent figure in the modern soul and jazz scene. In 2019, his talent caught the attention of the Black Pumas, a band that has become a global phenomenon and has received multiple Grammy Award nominations. JaRon was one of the harmonic masterminds, creating the hypnotic textures and psychedelic fire that characterize the group's sound, both on their international tours and in their recordings.
