Sam has an interesting A-Ha moment at 23:30 when he observes that one can gain acceptance to a group by subscribing to its values. It reminded me of my military experience as a person of Afro-Caribbean descent. Several times when confronted with openly racist comments about others, I would point out my discomfort, and have my colleagues respond with things like "Oh, you're not Black, you're one of us!" In business I see the same dynamic. In order to be "a valued member of the team", people need to publicly proclaim their adherence to a set of shared values. We may even see that those values lead to bad business decisions, and that is still of lesser value than group cohesion.
