Today’s word is: virtue. Would you like to know what it means? It means: behaviour showing high moral standards, a good quality, habit or way of behaving, an advantage or benefit as compared to others

The word virtue means a part of a character, habit or behaviour that is considered to be morally good.


For example: Patience is a virtue essential for long term investors.


Listen carefully how we can use the word virtue in 8 different situations in 8 different sentences.


Example number 1 of 8:  The school arranged an outdoor activity involving the students to clean a beach near the school. The rationale behind this drive was to inculcate the virtue of cleanliness among students.


Example number 2 of 8: Soham’s father was in army. He passed away on the battle field. Soham’s mother was a courageous woman and she taught him the virtue of patriotism and encouraged him to join the army.


Example number 3 of 8:  Children observe the environment around them and learn many things. Often, the family and society influences the virtues that the children imbibe.


Example number 4 of 8:  Gold has been a preferred form of investment for centuries. This is due to its virtue of being a precious metal which is always in demand for making ornaments.


Example number 5 of 8:  The principal noticed that a boy from a poor family would sell peanuts at the entrance of his school. He observed the virtue of sincerity in the boy. He was quite impressed and got him admitted to the school with his parent’s permission.


Example number 6 of 8: Smita would take her children to visit a nearby animal shelter on each Sunday. The children would feed the animals and assist the staff. This way she introduced them to the virtue of compassion.


Example number 7 of 8:  Bret could not secure a place in the cricket team and was placed in the waiting list. Nevertheless, he would be present at the stadium for practice each day at the scheduled time. The coach liked his commitment and the virtue of punctuality. Soon, he was included in the team on the coach’s recommendation.


Example number 8 of 8: Priyank worked as an agent for pharmaceutical companies. He would often make promises, but would not fulfill the same. He would tell lies and mismanage funds. Ultimately, his lack of virtues resulted in bad reputation and he was disqualified as an agent.
