Today’s word is: vivid. Would you like to know what it means? It means:  very brightly coloured, producing powerful feelings or clear images in the mind, very clear and detailed, full of life


In this English vocabulary lesson you will learn how to use the word vivid. We are sure that this ESL lesson will help you to enhance your English vocabulary and speak English fluently and confidently.


The word vivid means something which is very bright in colour. It also means a visualization or data which is very clear and detailed.


For example, the tourists were amazed to witness the vivid colour schemes of palaces in the state of Rajasthan.


Listen carefully how we can use the word vivid in 8 different situations in 8 different sentences.


Example number 1 of 8:  The state minister was invited as a chief guest to the school where he had studied. He expressed satisfaction over the excellent amenities facilitated by the school and also shared vivid memories of his school days.


Example number 2 of 8:  Milkman company was selling an array of milk based products in the district for several years. However, of late, its sales performance was deteriorating. The CEO asked his team to prepare a vividly designed advertising campaign to grow the market share.  


Example number 3 of 8: Prerna visited a rural area for her project work. She made friends with the women there. She would chat with them amicably and they used to give her a vivid description of their lifestyle.


Example number 4 of 8:  Another crime had taken place in the city. A sketch was made of the suspects based on the description provided by a few eye witnesses. When the investigating officer saw the sketch, he vividly remembered that the sketch had a resemblance to a criminal whom he had arrested in an earlier case.


Example number 5 of 8:  Amit was blessed with a fantastic memory. He visited the Eifel Tower during his summer holidays and upon return he could paint a vivid picture of the same.


Example number 6 of 8:  The director is famous for his vivid imagination. The audience loved the use of a moving stage in his latest play and it has been a phenomenal success.


Example number 7 of 8: The science club in the city held a conference for its members.


One of the speakers at the event made a presentation about the black holes in space. He supported his talk with vivid photos and video clips.


Example number 8 of 8: The family mourned the loss of Clark. He lost his life at a young age. He was the most vivid member of the family and always cared for everyone.
