Today’s word is: thrive. The meaning of thrive is: progress or develop well, to be successful, to become happier, to gain wealth or possessions

The word thrive is used when we are trying to mention the progress of a project or an activity which has been successful.
For example, a business thrives well in the hands of a capable leadership.


Listen carefully how we can use the word thrive in 8 different situations in 8 different sentences.


Example number 1 of 8: The country needed to boost its foreign exchange reserve. Hence, it decided to enhance the exports. The finance minister announced several pragmatic measures and the exports business started thriving.


Example number 2 of 8: The town once famous for its beaches was losing its glory due to pollution at the sea shore. The locals proactively came together and prepared a framework of guidelines to minimise the pollution. Slowly, things improved and tourism started thriving again.


Example number 3 of 8: Many animals and plants thrive only indigenously in their natural environment. Transporting them to other locations can jeopardize their growth and survival. If it is absolutely necessary, it must be done under expert guidance.


Example number 4 of 8: An NGO adopted a dump yard to transform it into a garden. They leveled the ground and planted trees. A group of volunteers meticulously ensured that the plants thrive well. Soon, the garden flourished and it became an attraction for the locals.


Example number 5 of 8: The children at a young age are very receptive to knowledge, information and ideas. If the parents and teachers create a suitable environment, the children thrive well and transform into responsible human beings.


Example number 6 of 8: Mr. Raje took charge as a head of a science research institute. He observed that the conventional research programs were not yielding desired results. He collaborated with the scientists to design a blueprint for innovative research and it resulted in thriving scientific culture and inventions.


Example number 7 of 8: Globalization has introduced the youth to the spirit of entrepreneurship. This has led to a thriving startup culture in many parts of the world. The respective governments have taken note of this and are drafting policies to encourage the same.


Example number 8 of 8: The business of coaching for various entrance examinations is thriving across various cities. Several educationists are of the opinion that this practice is not advisable since it constrains the original thinking of the students.
