Brought to you by Bubble Works Media, Reign of Chains: Breaking the Silence Ozgecan Aslan’s Impact on Gender Equity is explained by our guest Serra Yenilmez, whose quest for women’s rights is inspired by the death of Özgecan Aslan, who was raped and killed on February 11th, 2015, during an attempted rape on a minibus in Mersin, Turkey. The murder was committed by minibus driver Ahmet Suphi Altındöken, and his father Necmettin Altındöken and friend Fatih Gökçe were accomplices in covering up the murder. Özgecan’s murders sparked protests throughout Turkey and centered on the importance of the Istanbul Convention in Turkey.
