Description

A matchplay marathon marks the start of the golfing year for the Oxford & Cambridge Golfing Society. One of the most historic amateur knockout tournaments around, The President's Putter has been played for since 1920 at Rye Golf Club, in East Sussex. For more on Rye, please head to our film here.

Previous winners of this event include Ernest Holderness, Bernard Darwin, Roger Wethered, Ted Dexter, Leonard Crawley, Gerald Micklem, Cyril Tolley, Donald Steel... and of course, our very own Bruce Fitzpatrick, who won it in 2020 on his first-ever attempt. We sit down to discuss the history of the event, why Rye is such a brilliant venue for matchplay golf, and give Bruce a good grilling on what it's like during the week!

For those wanting to follow live scoring throughout the action this week or follow Bruce's progress, please head to the link here and keep hitting the refresh button!
