38: Five Things You’ve Always Wanted to Ask A Sex Therapist with Vanessa Marin
Today on Rise Together, we’re at it again. Conquering the butterflies in our stomach to talk about the thing that we all want to talk about, but sometimes have trouble with. And this time we brought in a dang expert! Vanessa Marin is a brilliant sex therapist who has been featured in O Magazine, Refinery29, Real Simple, and so many more. In the episode, we talk about conquering shame and being open with your partner about your sex life, what to do if you and your partner have different sex drives, and how to prioritize intimacy even when you are crazy busy. It’s a wonderful and open conversation and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Just probably not with kids in the car. 35: Our Adoption Journey
Today on Rise Together we’re talking about something we’ve never discussed in detail with our audience, the incredible and emotionally-trying journey we took to adoption. In what ended up being 5 long years of our lives, we navigated both international and domestic adoption, becoming foster parents, and the complicated waters of state and national child-care agencies, all in the name of completing our family. It resulted in some of the toughest seasons of our lives but also the sweetest moments and we are so blessed to be able to share this story with you. If you’re interested in learning more about adoption or foster care, find as many people in your community who can share their story.  Follow folks on social who share theirs like some of our IG favorites: @elsielarson, @thisgatherednest, @theluckyfewofficial and @adopttogether.National Angels (https://www.nationalangels.org) is an organization that walks alongside children in the foster care system, as well as their caretakers, by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building and mentorship. We mentioned Jen Hatmaker’s book Interrupted (https://amzn.to/2BW6sSv), it landed at a time to encourage our jumping into awesome interruption.  Our friend Heather Avis also writes the story of being called into adoption in her book The Lucky Few (https://amzn.to/2BY5EfT).—Red Alert! Girl, Stop Apologizing is incoming March 5th! 28: How to Overcome Other People’s Opinions
On this week's Rise Together podcast, we’re digging into the opinions of other people, and how we dodge or sometimes even positively use the opinions of others. Of course you should take everyone’s opinion with a grain of salt, but no matter how much we say that, it’s never that easy. You may even find it influences some constructive growth in regards to how you’re showing up for the the people you love. 25: Year in Review: The Biggest Wins and Fails of Our Relationship in 2018
As the end of the year approaches, we think it’s incredibly important to take stock of the highs and lows you’ve experienced as a couple over the previous 12 months. For us, it’s been one of the most eventful and meaningful years of our collective lives, and unpacking that was extremely insightful. This week, we dig deep into what we learned, what we loved, and what we hope to do better in 2019. Did you know the documentary of our live-event RISE is back in theaters on Jan 2 and Jan 9? 24: Are You Showing Up The Way Your Partner Needs?
On this week's Rise Together podcast, we're going to talk about the roles and identities we each take on in a relationship and how despite our best intention of how we hope to show up well for our partner, what we think they want may not what they really need. The roles and identities we as individuals in a relationship play evolve over the course of our partnership through stages and seasons of life. In a relationship that's interested in moving forward, letting go of who you are or who you were for who you'll become is something you need to work through and continually embrace, even as you're at times unrecognizable from where you started -- that's growth. Those changes show how a fluid you anticipates the needs of each other at specific times in life and in specific environments that surround you. You'll only be able to show up in a way that makes the most of your collective strengths if you're combining your individual strengths with the individual needs of your partner in a way that's informed by regular, transparent conversation, and that anticipates how life or seasonal changes may require a pivot where you or they take on a new role to create the strongest team.A special shout out to the greatest living author (according to her husband) Rachel Hollis who's Girl, Wash Your Face incredibly passed 2 million copies sold last week. For the first time ever on the Rise Together podcast, we're having an hour-long conversation about fatherhood -- what does it take to be a good dad in 2018? In a conversation with Larry Hagner, the host of The Dad Edge Podcast, Dave and Larry talk about raising 1,000 kids, how to keep the spark alive with your spouse while doing so, the myths around balance, the debate of giving kids what they want vs what they need and the biggest things they're hoping to impart on their small humans.
