This week, Anna and Oli are joined by industry insider Tess to discuss Damien Chazelle's musical La La Land (2016).

Mia (Emma Stone) is an aspiring actress living in Los Angeles and waiting for her big break when she meets Sebastien (Ryan Gosling), an aspiring jazz pianist. The two immediately fall in love, recognizing the deep passion and ambition they possess for their respective crafts. While initially their relationship serves as a motivational launchpad for their careers, they both begin to realize that success may require compromising or even sacrificing the powerful feeling they have for one another.

A film that is deeply aware and celebrates the musical genre's history and aesthetics, it is a melancholic story of the artist's struggle to choose between love and art.
