Description

It's time to have a family discussion about Game of Thrones episode 805, "The Bells". Because we're all up in arms about it and we can't agree if it's the best, most satisfying episode or the worst ever. It's notoriously hard to be objective about a subjective opinion, but we try our level best. Our considered thoughts on Jaime's arc, the CLEGANEBOWL!!!!, Arya rejecting the call to vengeance, and the Mad Queen Daenerys await you -- if you dare! Then we don our asbestos underwear and wade into your feedback on this incredibly divisive episode of #DemThrones. We'll be back Friday for more thoughts on this episode and what it means for George Martin and his adaptation of the hit television series on the SpoiLore podcast. See you then!

I don't mind twists but it has to make sense. This season jumps to the twists without the development. In the future when a show gets to final season people will say please don't d&d it.

Sands has no claim to the throne period. I hope Dany kills her for what that bitch has caused.

Ok. What everyone loved with GoT when it started was that it subverted expectations of a traditionally told (fantasy) story. And the fact that the characters are flawed and complex beyond the standard Hollywood script. And now suddenly people are pissed that the ending is not filled to the brim with the traditional Hollywood tropes. What the f**k. Yes, it's frustrating that Jamie returns to his sister, but to say it's out of character is just wrong. Same with Dany, yes I was shocked when she started burning the innocent, but hell she told everyone that's her plan, and she is clearly not listening to Tyrion anymore. The only thing I didn't really like is how magically Euron appears from the sea, at the perfect place and time to intercept Jamie. For me he should have just been eaten by the dragon :) Also I'm super sad that my dream spinoff "The Adventures of Arya and The Hound" is no longer possible... Can't wait to see the last episode!!

J WIII you are correct in that Dany has shown increasing tyrannical tendencies in recent seasons, but generally only against her enemies and never the innocent (who she has been consumed with saving the whole show). I think we just needed to see a better timed event to trigger her into full psycho, kill them all mode. It could have been either Rheagal or Missandei or grey worm dying just when the bells rang. The timing of it all was the problem because it seems like she went mad in advance and then hid her plans to massacre kings landing, which doesn't even jive with what DB said in the post show.

Dan Fanning I agree that it was rushed, but Devils advocate: Dany becoming increasingly more mad has been so obvious since like season 4 or 5. I can't believe how many people are surprised by this after everything her character has lost at this point.

Great podcast episode; I shared the same feelings about S8E5 and the problematic, rushed story lines. Was hoping to hear some discussion about the scene where Grey Worm was mid attack (after Dany goes berserk) and he looked back at Jon Snow trying to stop the north men from engaging. It seemed like there was a moment of judgement and disapproval from Grey Worm. Combine that with the stare down that Grey Worm gave Jon on his way out of Dany's room before the battle, it seems like there is animosity brewing between the two. Do you believe there will be a final confrontation/battle between Jon and Grey worm in the last episode??
