Freaking amazing reporting. Such a great case study of what you can only experience by radio. 🐘 🐘 🐘

I hate this woman's voice. Please don't give her any speaking parts anymore. I listen to planet money because it is upbeat and informative, this woman's voice sounds depressing and sometimes tries to transparently inject drama into a situation, it's super annoying.

T.R. Yelton You want to know what this woman's voice sounds like? Listen to the first episode of Freakonomics. Stephen Levitt even admitted in a later replay of that episode that he sounded like a student from the "av club", over dramatizing his speech. As an avid listener of hidden brain, I can't deny that I may have some hidden biases that I'm not aware of. That being said, yes there are men's voices on radio I can't stand either (Ira Glass comes to mind). It's not even necessarily the voice, it's the intonation of this woman's speech I find incredibly annoying. The false, over dramatization when telling a story sounds grating, like I'm being talked to like a child.

T.R. Yelton PS: if I'm honest, I find plenty of radio / podcast people's voices annoying... Some of it is caused by the fault of audio engineers that overuse compression causing breaths between words to sound like gasps, and close microphone techniques to make normal speech to sound like ASMR stuff... And people that refuse to get a sip of water or conversely won't swallow their saliva...
