Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

This is a photograph of a c. 1905-1910 Carousel Organ manufactured by Louis Francois Hooghuys in Belgium. The Hooghuys family built some of the world’s finest classical church organs, beginning in the late 1700s, but Louis Francois decided to branch out and began making barrel organs, and organs for fairground and dance halls. So why is a photograph of a fairground organ featured in the playlist of a show which plays 78 RPM records from the 1920s and ’30s? Well because I wanted to play Old Faithful March by Abe Holzmann, but could only find a couple of cylinder recordings of it which were nowhere near broadcast quality. I did, however, find a recording of the tune played on a 70-Key Hooghuys Fair Organ and you’ll hear it in the second segment of this week’s show which is all about faithfulness. In other segments, we’ll try to identify some things and hear some hot stuff. We’ll also don couple of disguises. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Just click the link above to listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience.

THANKS FOR LISTENING! ENJOY THE SHOW!
