Diese Folge wirft einige Schlaglichter auf die Beziehungen zwischen dem Römischen Reich und dem muslimischen Kalifat von der schnellen Expansion im 7. Jahrhundert bis zur langsamen Desintegration des Abbasiden-Reiches im 10. Jahrhundert. Der Fokus liegt dabei weniger auf den militärischen Auseinandersetzungen als auf dem Austausch auf kultureller, religiöser, intellektueller und diplomatischer Ebene.
