THEME: LABOR DAY, 2017

Gregg Townsend did some historical research and told the story of the origin of how the Labor Day celebration became a National Holiday. The discussion then jumped 100 years ahead. Skye Dee Miles expressed what it was like for the Black performers on the Las Vegas Strip during Segregation.

Today she is able to enter the front door of the casino where she is performing. She has never forgotten that it was not the same for Sammy Davis Jr. and Lena Horne. Black performers appeared on stage, but they entered and left the building either from the back door or through the kitchen.

As is so often the case with new guests, Bob will ask if Diabetes is in the family. Skye shared that both her grandmother and her mother were Diabetic. She has been diagnosed with Pre-Diabetes.

Leslie Caprow has been a frequent guest on the Diabetes Show. From 6:30 PM – 6:45 PM, she gave the most updated information that she is allowed to share as Medicare open enrollment begins. There are some major changes with some plans that are going to surprise the public.

Bob also promoted the upcoming 26th Anniversary HEALTH AND DIABETES FEST scheduled for Saturday, October 7, from Noon to 3 PM. The event is sponsored by the Diabetes Treatment Center at Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center and will be held at the Main Entrance of the Boulevard Mall.
