As if PTSD from being in the military and separation from families is not enough to cope with for men and women in uniform and veterans, now we have people targeting our military here at home. As Denise prepared this show about veterans and the military, there was another tragic event, this time the shootings in Chattanooga, TN at a military recruiting center and also at a Navy facility nearby.
On this week’s show Denise interviews Randy Brown, a veteran himself, who heads a new non profit organization, Pointman, that addresses issues unique to the military and its veterans, trying to make their reentry into civilian life less traumatic and positive. There is so much to cope with and trying to get things done through the government is often frustrating. Many of our military suffer with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), drug addiction and alcoholism, depression and anxiety, most caused by being in the military. They were protecting our country and deserve to be a priority when they come back.
Without knowing how to cope with these issues, many choose the option of using drugs and alcohol to feel better. Too many are turning to suicide. Randy and his team hope to help cut these statistics down give them more choices. The purpose of this week’s discussion is to educate, inform, and offer choices, resources, and support.
