Afghan asylum seeker, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, allegedly shot and killed one National Guard member, Sarah Beckstrom, and injured another, Andrew Wolfe, near the White House. Lakanwal, who arrived in the U.S. in 2021, was granted asylum this year. The incident occurred as the National Guard presence in Washington D.C. decreased following the national holiday. President Trump intensified his immigration rhetoric, calling for a pause on migration from Third World Countries and removal of those deemed not a net asset to the U.S. Lakanwal, who drove from Washington state, was wounded in a gunfight with other troops.
