According to the June 2024 Airbus study, “Exploring the horizons: A study of unserved air routes to, from and within Africa,” only one in five continental airline routes in Africa are direct. This means travellers often have to route via Europe or the Middle East to move between African countries, increasing cost, reducing demand, and weakening tourism and trade flows across the continent.
