On today’s show, we pay tribute to and appreciate a few Madisonians who passed away last year. Each one contributed to our community and lifted us all up. Over the hour, meet various people and WORT volunteers who we lost in 2024.
Dr. Gloria Sarto was the char of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin and the first female President of the American Gynecological and Obstetrics Academy.
Frank Emspack was an organizer, teacher, and advocate for the working class. WORT listeners may know Emspak from his 25-year run as a producer and writer for Labor Radio, part of his larger effort to establish a national worker independent news network.
Lauri Lee was the President of the Northside Planning Council, an organization that was instrumental in building and sustaining neighborhood business and operates the FEED kitchens.
Roderick Cook was a volunteer and supporter of WORT. He loved local music and art and was a regular at live music shows.
Mark Biel was a longtime WORT volunteer who worked in the music department for over thirty years. For decades he helped manage the vast music library at the station.
Dean Schroeder was a longtime friend of the station. He co-founded the annual Handel Aria Competition.
Jeremy Lansman was a pioneer of community radio who organized stations from Gilroy, California to Seattle and St. Louis.
