Publisher's Summary:
Emma O'Donovan is 18, beautiful, and fearless. It's the beginning of summer in a quiet Irish town and, tonight, she and her friends have dressed to impress. Everyone is at the party, and all eyes are on Emma.
The next morning, Emma's parents discover her collapsed on the doorstop of their home, unconscious. She is disheveled, bleeding, and disoriented, looking as if she had been dumped there.
To her distress, Emma can't remember what happened the night before. All she knows is that none of her friends will respond to her texts. At school, people turn away from her and whisper under their breath. Her mind may be a blank as far as the events of the previous evening, but someone has posted photos of it on Facebook under a fake account, "Easy Emma" - photos she will never be able to forget.
As the photos go viral and a criminal investigation is launched, the community is thrown into tumult. The media descends, neighbors choose sides, and people from all over the world want to talk about her story. Everyone has something to say about Emma.
Contains mature themes.

Critic Reviews:
"O'Neill's powerful novel digs into deep questions about rape culture that are difficult to listen to but essential to consider." (School Library Journal, starred review)

It provided such a good insight into the devastating effects of drinking too much ...
Having read an article in the local newspaper written by Louise O'Neill on the subject of rape and consent in light of the recent Stanford rape case in the States, I read "Asking for it" in 2 sittings. It was an eye opener in terms of the public opinion on the way a girl dresses and behaves and if a gang rape is then almost deserved. It provided such a good insight into the devastating effects of drinking too much and what happens when your consent is taken away from you. The ending was by no means happy which is true to reality for so many survivors of rape. I think that every young person should be make to read this book .... boys need to 100% understand what consent is and that it is no longer valid from a girl if she is highly intoxicated or passed out. Young girls also need to understand the consequences of certain behaviours and drinking too much but in the end, no girl deserves to be raped no matter what.

Eye opener
This book really opens your eyes to how people in our society still behave. It is a disgrace how people can treat others and talk about them so poorly on social media. Rape needs to be talked about and victims need to feel as supported to come forward. I cried through 50% of this book because it is not just the act that has the victims suffering it is how it affects their future and the lives of their families also. I hated the way the book ended, but I'm sure that's how most victims stories end because of the fear of how they will be treated if the do come forward.

Made me think
Growing up in pretty much the same world as Emma I could relate to many aspects of this story. This book made me question my own thoughts on these situations that can occur so so easily. Awareness and lots of conversations are so badly needed. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.

Gorgeous and thought-provoking story
This story was heart wrenching and, unfortunately, all-too-familiar. At first, the author created a totally unlikeable character rather than someone you would easily defend.
