In the Arctic, a Lithuanian firm, Astrolight, is constructing a cutting-edge ground station for the European Space Agency. This station will use laser beams to swiftly and securely download data from satellites, addressing growing concerns about space hacks that could compromise Europes defenses. The project comes as satellites face increased threats from cyberattacks, espionage, and disruptions, particularly from Russian and Chinese craft. Europe is also developing a secure satellite network, IRIS squared, to rival Starlink, but it wont be operational for at least four years.
